born in the Congo DR, claude moved to a suburb of paris when he was a small child. i'm not a crazy stalker so i don't know exactly how old he was. like our dear friend el pipita, claude's daddy was also a footballer who played on the Congo DR's national team and various european clubs.
claude's first senior team! back when i was a baby! he played for FC Nantes, a french first division team that, while he played with them, won the french championship and also a semifinal appearance in the champions league. THEN transfer drama struck and he was sold to my eternal rival- Marseilles.
we can forgive him for playing there because HEY GUYS LOOK AT THAT SMILE. doesn't it just make you happy? also he only played for OM for one year, so HA.
then he went to Celta Vigo for two seasons where he did awesome (yet sad :[) things like beat Liverpool 4-1 and Juventus 4-0. i'm pretty sure his last season with them was their last good season. that's how awesome he is.
THEN GUESS WHERE HE WENT? THAT'S RIGHT! HALA HALA HALA MADRID!
he was amazing with us. he came to us in 00. won la liga twice, won the champions league, the european supercup, spanish supercup, and the fifa world club cup or whatever the fuck that's called. with us he became a blossoming butterfly (uh, what??? jajajajaja i like to make fun of my freshman writing seminar TA, sorry guys) and established himself as the best holding midfielder IN THE WORLD.
HELAS, all was not good in the world, and perez ushered in the likes of zizou and becks. and he fired del bosque, which if you remember, WAS STUPID AND A HUGE SHOCK AND THIS IS WHY I HATE PEREZ. claude, being the amazing and key player that he is, asked for an improved contract. perez, being the douche bag that he is, refused, said some shit about claude in the press, and then sold him to chelsea. everyone at madrid was outraged. zizou, mcmanaman, HIERRO<3 all said that he would be missed and was possibly their best player and everyone was so so so sad guys you have no idea how hard i cried.
let's take a break from club nonsense, shall we?
claude also plays for LES BLEUS. played. i hate past tense. anyway, he first got called up in like, 95, i don't know. i was what, 3? 4? jajajajaja ANYWAY he was a mainstay in the starting squad until 2004 when he announced his international retirement after the euro. then in 2005, he, zizou, and thuram were all persuaded out of retirement to qualify for and play in the 06 WC, which all france (and spain, god that game) supporters remember with a certain amount of dread. yes, we made the final. yes, zizou headbutted an italian. YES, MAKELELE PLAYED. moving on.
he retired again from internationals in 08 after the euro defeat to italy (which RIPPED OUT MY HEART, for real).

back to club footie. he went to chelsea, breaking my heart. he did awesome shit there, though, like oh, winning the prem two years in a row. no big deal.
AND THEN. IN 2008. MY DARLING WAS RELEASED ON A FREE TRANSFER (although idk why anyone would want to get rid of him, he's amazing) TO PARIS SAINT GERMAIN. he's our captain and we love him and when he announced in february that he will be retiring at the end of this season, i cried so hard. we all did, i think. he's only been with us for two years but he is my lifeeeeeeee.
