On Awesomeness

I'm a big fan of success blogs and self-improvement-type literature.  For this reason I like reading Steve Pavlina and other bloggers of his ilk, though few compare to his caliber.  For me it's massively inspiring to see random folks with nothing but some drive and a little writing ability really take off, become well known and well respected.

I followed Steve Pavlina a lot also, until a certain point -- I forget why -- when I felt like he was writing the same thing over and over and I was reading the same thing over and over and it came to be a bit too much reading about the rather manic awesomeness of Steve Pavlina and not enough actually being awesome myself.

What you're saying here seems very much in line with what I've been thinking lately. I find that life works much better when I see things not in terms of success / failure but as "what form do I want the world to take, and what is the best next step to make that real?" And in the broadest description, the form I want is quite well described by "Be awesome! Be your own hero!"

I agree, Steve Pavlina can get a tad overwhelming. He's probably best in small doses.

I like your take on keeping the next step on the path to success in focus. Being able to break down goals to manageable tasks seems to be a common thread among people who have gone far in life. It also seems that people who go places are able to keep their fingers on the pulse of the big picture of their goals.

Good luck on taking the next best step. Your starting grad school back at the School of Masochism is an inspiration to us all.

You do totally need to read The Happiness Trap.

(I'm the Book Fairy. I arrive with a required reading list.)
