Donghae walks down the stretched road, a bottle of alcohol in hand.
He mutters to himself, taking a swig of his alcohol, clumsily tripping over himself in the process. He runs his fingers through his already dishevelled brown hair, taking in more alcohol by the minute. He looks up to the empty night sky, his eyes watering as he thinks about her. He misses the movement of her soft skin against his; her chocolate brown eyes; her vanilla perfume that always weakens him. He thumps his chest as his heart begins to ache.
Donghae blames himself for her departure; he always believed he was the cause of her death. He remembers holding her, the colour red painted his skin as he clutches her closer, yelling for help. He shouldn’t have said it; he shouldn’t have told her he needed time apart. Was she in Heaven, mocking him? Was this time apart enough? She was gone too fast; too soon. Donghae finishes his bottle and smashes the bottle onto the floor as sadness begins to overcome him.
He kicks a pebble away, yelling towards the sky as he spins around. Donghae runs as fast as his tired legs could carry him; he just wants to go home. He stops, squatting as he retches into the drain. He wipes his mouth with the back of his hand, panting as he attempts to stand up; only for it to be a futile try as he falls backwards.
And there he laid, back on the side of the road, his head towards the sky. He reaches for his back pocket, taking out his worn-out brown leather wallet, slipping his finger through a secret pocket. He takes the flimsy photo card out, fingering it, tracing the jaw line of the woman in the photograph.
‘I’m sorry’, he whispers.
Donghae promised never to love again.
