does anyone here knit? everytime i try, my rows keep getting wider and wider and i don't get what i'm doing wrong.

most likely you're inadvertently adding stitches (try counting how many stitches you have when you cast on, then counting how many you have when the rows are wider.) there's a couple of ways this can happen: you could be bringing the yarn over the needle instead of under it when you make a new stitch (creating "yarnovers" and holes in the fabric), splitting stitches (splitting the yarn in half when you put the right hand needle into the stitch, and so knitting each stitch twice) or forgetting to slip the stitch off the left hand needle after knitting the stitch, and knitting into a stitch twice.) if you have the same number of stitches as when you cast on but the rows still get wider, it's probably a tension issue - try casting on very loose (or even over 2 needles held together).
