I'm learning to crochet right now and I'd just like to officially state that it is a first class BITCH. I'm having to work on these zen knitted preemie baby caps in between rows of crochet just so I don't throw the damn thing across the room. Ah, the sweet sweet meditation of knit purl knit purl. Knitting is SO superior.

I agree completely! It's not just the ease of knitting that makes superior, it's also that knitted stitches are, in my opinion, much prettier than crocheted stitches.

I think the trouble lies in the way you hold the hook versus the way you hold the needle. Once you find a nice balance (hook held this way, yarn draped over these fingers, work pulled taut with this hand- it's a very very involved craft), and it takes some time to find it, crocheting seems to move a lot faster (especially if you're making a triple stitch scarf!) I wish you much luck in your new endeavor, and I encourage you to make this bag, as it is Very easy and very quick.
