heysay_fanfic,
hsj_fics and
jent_fanfics Sometimes it's hard and during those sometimes, Keito just wants to scream I quit! and walk away from this idol life. Sometimes he gets tired of the unfair expectations and the harsh accusations, the cold glares he still receives even after all these years and the googly stares from girls who only like him because he's famous. Sometimes Keito just wants to lock himself in his room, where nothing can get to him and nothing can hurt him; not his parents, his friends, his classmates, nothing. Not even himself.
"Keito, are you okay?"
Biting back what he really wants to say, No, I'm not fine. I'm sad and I'm angry and I can't take it anymore, Keito smiles at Ryosuke and says, "Of course Yama-chan, why do you ask?"
Ryosuke frowns and points down at the magazine Keito is holding, clutched tightly in his fists and the paper tearing under his finger nails. Keito immediately lets go and the magazine falls to the floor, his picture crinkled with crescent moon marks.
Giving a nervous laugh, Keito runs a hand through his hair and stands up, nodding at Ryosuke before making his way to leave. He doesn't get far though when Ryosuke's hand shoots out and grabs his wrist, pulling Keito to stand back in front of him.
Ryosuke stares at him long and hard, his eyebrows pulling together and his mouth set in a straight line before speaking, "Answer me truthfully, Okamoto Keito. Are you okay?"
Keito opens his mouth to answer automatically but the grip on his wrist tightens, and Keito hisses in pain as he wrenches it out of Ryosuke's grasp. Starring down at his wrist, he examines it for damage before looking back at his friend, his expression still hard but this time, tears are steadily falling down his cheeks.
"Yama-chan, what's wrong?"
Ryosuke shakes his head, causing his bangs to fall in front of his eyes and obscuring his face, "You don't get it, do you?"
Keito reaches a hand out to Ryosuke, brushing back his bangs, "Get what?"
"How incredible you are," Ryosuke begins to sob harder, his shoulders shaking and his voice quivering, "You don't see it Keito, you don't see what I see in you and it hurts Keito, it hurts so much. You're so special, so fucking wonderful but you don't see it."
"Ryosuke," Keito whispers, bringing his hand to rest on his cheek, "Please don't cry."
"How can I not?" Ryosuke asks him, "How can I not cry when I see how unhappy you are, with this job and especially with yourself? Why do you wanna change yourself Keito?"
Keito wipes away Ryosuke's tears and keeps quiet, unsure how to respond to such a question, so Ryosuke continues, "I love Keito just the way he is, so does the rest of JUMP. We all love Keito because he's random at times and can't shut up, and other times he's quiet with a thoughtful look in his eyes. He's funny and he takes care of us, and he plays the guitar really well and helps us with our English homework. We love Keito exactly as he is, and we don't want him to change."
Ryosuke paused, lifting a hand to wipe away the tears Keito hadn't realized were trailing down his cheeks, "So, why would you want to change yourself then?"
Sniffing, Keito blinks back his tears before wrapping his arms around Ryosuke's waist and burying his face in his neck, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I don't see what you see."
Bringing his arms across Keito's shoulders and holding him close, the two cry together as Ryosuke says, "I know, and I'm gonna change that. I swear, I'm gonna make sure you see what I see, what we all see in you. I promise."
