The sensuous freshness of just-ripe pears and white freesias; the peculiar scent of her perfume was her favorite.

Not even because it had such a nice smell; but because the presence of it meant that she was around her and there was nothing Qri loved more than being with her. Even if there were no words exchanged between them, no looks shot at each other, no smiles offered, she was still close - and that was all that mattered.

The worst thing was when the rule turned upside down and the scent no longer was a proof for her presence. As Qri rolls on her other side in her bed, she inhales the luscious scent like she always does, but her eyes doesn’t meet the figure of the owner to the cologne. Not because it’s dark and she can barely take out anything, no. She can’t find her because she’s not here.

The fact that the scent had soaked into her pillow is like a two-sided coin: it makes her smile because it means that the owner has already been there next to her so many times that this could happen but the next thought making her realize that right now, she’s not here, causes that smile to fade and Qri debates which side she should focus on more.

After staring at the saddeningly empty spot and the pillow next to her, she slowly starts to grow a dislike towards the scent. Stupid pears and white freesias can go to hell, she thinks, if they appear without her. But no matter the displeased frown her face is morphing into or the slap the innocent pillow suffers from her, it’s not going to solve her problem.

A few minutes Qri believes are rather a couple of hours pass without her unable to doze off when the familiar whining of the opening old, rusty door hits her ears and she turns around, her eyes still not having gotten used to the darkness enough to see anything clearly but there’s no need for that. The air’s unmoving yet it still carries a much stronger variant of the scent coming from her pillow and the smile is already formed upon Qri’s lips even before Soyeon sneaks under the blanket and snuggles closer to her, two sparkling dots pointing at her in the darkness.

As soon as a warm hand slides over her cheek and a pair of soft, thin lips brush against her own, she thanks the pears and white freesias again.

To have Park Soyeon and Lee Qri put in one sentence that has nothing to do with their group’s activity, schedules, fanchants or any other official statement, has become a rare thing. Every fan remembers when it was still different; when they still happened to cling to each other more often than not, when they shared one umbrella in the pouring rain, their laughter overpowering the beautiful melody of nature, when it didn’t matter where they went, they kept on following each other everywhere. Even though they recently debuted in one subunit, fans have noticed how their interactions were barely existent during the promotions; not a laughter, not a touch, nothing. And thus, fans have deemed their relationship as something that has to be forgotten about, because seemingly it happened to be just like a lonely flower whose beauty fades over time and slowly, but eventually, it rots into pieces and disappears into the ground.

But the thing is that they don’t know.

They don’t know about the secret glances they steal at each other when everyone is focused on the others. They don’t see when their hands brush against each other when no one’s watching because it’s so subtle, so hidden that it’s barely noticeable if it is at all. They are not aware that when they kneel in front of Qri at the fansigns, her scent is from the perfume Soyeon had left in her bathroom yesterday night; and they also don’t know that the double ring Soyeon seems to wear almost every day is actually a gift from Qri she treasures more than most of her possessions.

They don’t know about the excitement Soyeon feels every time she hears the familiar clicking sound of the lock opening and the happiness that spreads through her body when Qri appears in the door, two bento boxes and a bottle of wine in her hands as she invites herself inside, her arm gently caressing the other’s as she passes by and skips to the kitchen. They don’t know that Soyeon is way too impatient to wait for Qri to put the things she brought down and she hurriedly does it for her just so she could wrap her arms around her and feel the soft touch of her lips against her own before it’s all interrupted by Qri’s amused laughter as she calls Soyeon ‘cute’, her lips soon finding their way back to the other’s skin again.

They don’t know that most of the nights, they spend them together. In Qri’s apartment, in Soyeon’s house, in a hotel, it doesn’t matter - but when schedules are finally out of their way and they don’t have to fear the public’s eyes anymore, that’s when the true connection they have blossoms and that’s something no one knows about.

Except for them.
