First, I'm going to admit that I'm still not sure if I like this book or not. I think after all the hype surrounding it, I got my hopes up and it just wasn't what I was hoping for. Or maybe I just got so used to rp-stlye Harry Potter, that nothing he did seemed real, although, I've been feeling that way since the fifth book.
Anyway, I like that within the first 100 pages, three people die (Muggle studdies professor, Hedwig and Mad-Eye), even if it was a bit misleading. It made it seem like it was going to be a fast pace book, which, at times, it was. Other times, it dragged on and I didn't want to go on. But I did.
Let me say, that Dobby has never been my favorite character. He wasn't horrible, but not my favorite. I sobbed when he died. Most likely cause it was the only death that Rowling actually elaborates on in this book. Everyone else just kind of... dies and that's it. Not Dobby.
Oh, and what was up with Hermione, Ron, Ginny AND Hagrid all surviving this book!? I was sure one of them would die, but no. They all have to go and survive so that the epilogue can be a happy place.
And let me just say, I hated the epilogue. They didn't mention anything about George in it, and I was dying to know how he took Fred's death! All they mentioned was that Ginny and Harry apparently got married... because, you know, there was so much interaction between them in this book and that their kids were named after people Harry has lost. Cause, you know, Ginny didn't lose anyone close to her to have their kids named after.
I love George. Him saying he felt Saintlike cause he was holey might have been the best line in the book, besides all the mentions of Aberforth and the goats. It took me about 10 minutes to realize that his patronus was a goat, even though they mentioned it like.. 20 times within five pages or something.
I hated how the sword had such a big part in the beginning of the book and then it just.. dissapeared. Yes, Griphook took it back, but still. It was just gone.
The Hallows were pretty interesting.
I loved the looks into Dumbledore's past. It really helped you to understand him and I finally have an appreciation for him. Since the second or third book I haven't trusted him, and now I like him.
And Snape, I knew that he was a good guy. But naming your kid after him? Come on, sure, he saved your life a couple of times and he was the spying spy of a spys spy, but still. Albus Severus is a just a horrible name. It's cruel and unusual punishment.
<3 Fred. My favorite Weasley and my first HP character. Remember:
Happy 16th Birthday Fred!
