To you wonderful folks who are familiar with websites and all: I need some advice! I'm thinking of setting up a site for me-as-a-writer, but I have absolutely no knowledge of coding. I'd like to have a blog on there, links to awesome people and distractions, and things along those lines. What do you use? and why? What do I need to learn? What books should I hunt down at the library? Help! (Have I ever said before? I hate being ignorant.)
I use Wordpress for allofmysites. I find it to be incredibly easy to manage, and very user friendly. There are also a ton of free and low-cost themes available on the web, and if you're not wanting to go through a big company for a domain/hosting package, you can sign up for a domain name through Wordpress. Alternately, Wordpress.Org has a list of suggested hosts that work with Wordpress or have one-click installations
( ... )
That's good to know, because your sites look fantastic. Grey has pretty much said he doesn't want to do tech support for me if I go through Wordpress, but it would do what I want and I like that it seems pretty customizable even without much coding/technical knowledge. Hm...I may have to pick your brain more about this when we get out there. (OMG!9DAYS!!!)
Off hand, do you know if I signed up for a domain name through Wordpress and down the road decide to leave Wordpress for something else, can that name go with me? (I feel kind of like I'm asking dumb questions, but I really don't even understand what this stuff is/how it works...)
...And now to check out those links, because they probably have all the answers. Or enough of them, anyway. :P
You're welcome! If you like, when you visit, I can show you the in's and out's of the websites I have, give you a basic feel for Wordpress. It's really quite easy to get the hang of, and a lot of what you can do depends on the theme that you install on the website.
But if you have any more questions, let me know, and I'll do what I can do help! :D
