Violette Market Hans Christian Andersen Thumbelina/Lion and Lamb 2012

Mar 16, 2012 00:10

Welcome!

I am such a sucker for Hans Christian Andersen. :) This is a decant circle for the Violette Market Thumbelina and Lion and Lamb 2012 update. I plan to place the order in a week, on March 23, and add-ons are welcome till then.

Full decants are $4.
Half decants are $2.50.
Fill level will be based on 6 decants per bottle.

Shipping will be $3.50 within the US for first class mail, up to 6 oz, and may or may not include recycled packaging, but definitely will include plenty of bubble wrap and delivery confirmation. $4.75 for packages 6-12 oz. $5.35 small flat rate box for anything over 12 oz.

I will have to calculate the international shipping based on your location (either first class or Priority Mail, please specify your choice--if you don't specify, I'll default to the cheaper first class mail). It will not include tracking unless requested and paid for accordingly.

I reserve the right to close signups after the first bottle or drop bottles from the circle if there's not enough demand (depends how willing I am to end up with leftovers of the scent in question!) Since this is a good-sized update, I may need all bottles to be full or nearly so before I can order them, particularly for the returning scents that may not have as much demand. Add-ons are OK if requested before I place the order (I'll let you know when I send you your total).

I will add Paypal fees using ppcalc.com. Payment via Paypal only, please (no e-checks). Please pay as promptly as feasible. You can change your order before the circle is placed, or add decants if there are extra slots after the order is placed. You cannot withdraw from decants you've requested after the order has been placed.

I cannot afford to cover any issues with leakage, breakage, missing packages, etc., so please let me know if you want to add on insurance in the event of something going wrong.

I'll try to put a fun extra in every package! If you have allergy issues and can't deal with candy, tea, etc., please let me know!

Please ask questions if I'm leaving anything out that you need to know. It may take me up to a week to get everything decanted once the package arrives with me. I'm based in the US, and can ship every weekday and Saturdays for US packages, but I can typically only go to the post office to ship internationals on Saturday.

I have positive feedback on eBay under tiltypig and on the bpal.org forums under orata.

I'm happy to combine shipping with my destash sales, and distribute empty bottles to whoever wants them (otherwise they go out randomly to participants).

Thumbelina

Thumbelina-

“Within the flower, upon the green velvet stamens, sat a very delicate and graceful little maiden. She was scarcely half as long as a thumb, and they gave her the name of “Thumbelina,” or Tiny, because she was so small. A walnut-shell, elegantly polished, served her for a cradle; her bed was formed of blue violet-leaves, with a rose-leaf for a counterpane.”

Creamed rose, sugared violet, sun-warmed barley corn, golden honey, white patchouli, light khus, hazelnut meat, and a polished walnut shell cradle.--LEFTOVERS PENDING SWAP

Toad Marsh-

“In the swampy margin of a broad stream in the garden lived the toad, with her son. He was uglier even than his mother, and when he saw the pretty little maiden in her elegant bed, he could only cry, “Croak, croak, croak.” “Don’t speak so loud, or she will wake,” said the toad, “and then she might run away, for she is as light as swan’s down. We will place her on one of the water-lily leaves out in the stream; it will be like an island to her, she is so light and small, and then she cannot escape; and, while she is away, we will make haste and prepare the state-room under the marsh, in which you are to live when you are married.”

White Butterfly-

“A graceful little white butterfly constantly fluttered round her, and at last alighted on the leaf. Tiny pleased him, and she was glad of it, for now the toad could not possibly reach her, and the country through which she sailed was beautiful, and the sun shone upon the water, till it glittered like liquid gold. She took off her girdle and tied one end of it round the butterfly, and the other end of the ribbon she fastened to the leaf, which now glided on much faster than ever, taking little Tiny with it as she stood.”

“She came at last to the door of a field-mouse, who had a little den under the corn-stubble. There dwelt the field-mouse in warmth and comfort, with a whole roomful of corn, a kitchen, and a beautiful dining room. Poor little Tiny stood before the door just like a little beggar-girl, and begged for a small piece of barley-corn, for she had been without a morsel to eat for two days.”

Resident Mole-

“We shall have a visitor soon,” said the field-mouse one day; “my neighbor pays me a visit once a week. He is better off than I am; he has large rooms, and wears a beautiful black velvet coat. If you could only have him for a husband, you would be well provided for indeed. But he is blind, so you must tell him some of your prettiest stories.” But Tiny did not feel at all interested about this neighbor, for he was a mole. However, he came and paid his visit dressed in his black velvet coat.”

Entombed Swallow-

“She stooped down and stroked aside the soft feathers which covered the head, and kissed the closed eyelids. “Perhaps this was the one who sang to me so sweetly in the summer,” she said; “and how much pleasure it gave me, you dear, pretty bird.” But during the night Tiny could not sleep; so she got out of bed and wove a large, beautiful carpet of hay; then she carried it to the dead bird, and spread it over him; with some down from the flowers which she had found in the field-mouse’s room. It was as soft as wool, and she spread some of it on each side of the bird, so that he might lie warmly in the cold earth. “Farewell, you pretty little bird,” said she, “farewell; thank you for your delightful singing during the summer, when all the trees were green, and the warm sun shone upon us.”

Four Spiders and the Spindle-

“You are going to be married, Tiny,” said the field-mouse. “My neighbor has asked for you. What good fortune for a poor child like you. Now we will prepare your wedding clothes. They must be both woollen and linen. Nothing must be wanting when you are the mole’s wife.” Tiny had to turn the spindle, and the field-mouse hired four spiders, who were to weave day and night. Every evening the mole visited her, and was continually speaking of the time when the summer would be over.”

Palace Deep Under the Earth-

“So the wedding-day was fixed, on which the mole was to fetch Tiny away to live with him, deep under the earth, and never again to see the warm sun, because he did not like it. The poor child was very unhappy at the thought of saying farewell to the beautiful sun, and as the field-mouse had given her permission to stand at the door, she went to look at it once more.”

Maia-

“But the best gift was a pair of beautiful wings, which had belonged to a large white fly and they fastened them to Tiny’s shoulders, so that she might fly from flower to flower. Then there was much rejoicing, and the little swallow who sat above them, in his nest, was asked to sing a wedding song, which he did as well as he could; but in his heart he felt sad for he was very fond of Tiny, and would have liked never to part from her again. “You must not be called Tiny any more,” said the spirit of the flowers to her. “It is an ugly name, and you are so very pretty. We will call you Maia.”

Windowpane in Denmark-

“Farewell, farewell,” said the swallow, with a heavy heart as he left the warm countries to fly back into Denmark. There he had a nest over the window of a house in which dwelt the writer of fairy tales. The swallow sang, “Tweet, tweet,” and from his song came the whole story.”

Rusalkas- In Slavic folklore and mythology, a Rusalkas is a water nymph or mermaid-like demon who embodies the soul of either a drowned virgin or a child who died unbaptized.  According to most traditions, the rusalka were fish-women, who lived at the bottom of rivers or waterways. In the middle of the night, they would walk out to the bank and dance in meadows. If they saw handsome men, they would fascinate them with songs and dancing, mesmerize them, then lead the man away to the river floor to his death. While her primary dwelling place was the body of water in which she died, the rusalka could come out of the water at night, and sing haunting lullabies, sit on a dock and comb their hair, or gaze at the moon. The rusalkas are often described as extremely pale with translucent skin, and no visible pupils. Their hair is sometimes depicted as green or golden, and often perpetually wet. Sheer vanilla, neroli blossom, moonflower accord, bamboo reeds, moss tangling over river rocks, white freesia and cold pond loam.--FULL

Vodyanoy- In Slavic mythology, Vodyanoy is a male water spirit. Vodyanoy is said to appear as a naked old man with a greenish beard and long hair, with his body covered in algae and muck, usually covered in black fish scales. He has webbed paws instead of hands, a fish's tail, and eyes that burn like red-hot coals. He usually rides along his river on a half-sunk log, making loud splashes. Consequently, he is often dubbed "grandfather" or "forefather" by the local people. Local drownings are said to be the work of the vodyanoy. When angered, the vodyanoy breaks dams, washed down water mills, drowns people and animals. (Consequently, fishermen, millers, and also bee-keepers make sacrifices to appease him.) He would drag down people to his underwater dwelling to serve him as slaves. Green apple accord, violet leaf, peach trees heavy with summer fruit, forest moss, jasmine petals, bergamot blossom, and the shadowy presence of brine coated wood, dark patchouli, winter rose, and black musk.
