Name: Valerie
Age: 23
1.Why would you like to join Hogwarts Home? Will you participate in both the process of sorting new applicants and the sub-communities one you have been sorted? I would like to join Hogwarts Home because the muggles around me are tired of being involved in the Potterverse in which I live. Being an active part of a Potter based community and its sub-communities would be a plus while I wait with baited breath for book 7.
2. Have you read all 6 of the Harry Potter books? Which book was your favorite and why? I have read all 6 of the Harry Potter books with Half Blood Prince being my favorite. The build up, suspense, and unanswered questions are all coming to a boiling head. Honestly, I find it to be one of the darkest books in the series which is something I have been waiting for. It also allowed characters to become more dimensional especially Snape, Dumbledore, and Harry. There is no such thing as black and white when it comes to good and evil. The gray area that has surfaced in book 6 are infuriating as well as highly intriguing which has caused me to fall even further into the Potterverse.
3. What character do you most relate to? Why? With my tendency to hold grudges and deep rooted emotions tied to bad events, I relate most to Severus Snape. While I certainly posses no magical prowess, I build a type of Occlumency around myself and prefer to stay shrouded in mystery, like Snape, in order to protect myself. There is more to my personality than I allow to meet the eye. By leaving true self a mystery, I escape from alot of hurt and anxiety. I find it easier to retire to the solitude of my "dungeon" than to keep company with people who I would constantly fret over their reasons for befriending me or not.
4. Who is your least favorite character? Why? Oddly, my first choice as least favorite character was Harry Potter...in the early years. I found him to be quite clueless on some occasions to the point where it drove me nearly insane. However, after the recent character turn about (see: hitting puberty) I actually came to like him as a character. After book 5, I am starting to dislike Aunt Petunia more and more which has nothing to do with the way she has allowed Harry to be treated over the course of his life; but because she knows more than she lets on. Nobody likes a secret that they're not in on.
5. What part of the series would you change if you were J.K Rowling? Why? I would never make it end. There are endless possibilities even after the final battle especially if Potter decides to become an Auror. I could see Hermione writing a book based on the events of their years at Hogwarts from her point of view, a historic contribution to future students. I envision stories from the Weasley Twins' shop. I want to know what Ron will end up doing for a career and see him pan out more than just a sidekick. In short, I want to see what happens to all the characters after the final battle.
6. If you were Headmaster/Mistress at Hogwarts, what changes would you make? Why? I would lighten the homework load on the students or allow more Hogsmeade visits. It seems as though all of the students are constantly busy which has always perplexed me. These are grade school, junior high and high school students with a work load of a college student. I feel nothing but pity for the Hogwarts students when I see how many parchments they have to produce for each class. I would also take time out of my busy Headmistress schedule to play jokes on Filch as he seriously needs to lighten up.
7. If you were faced with a boggart what would you see? I would see my future self failing in every way possible. My biggest fear is that I will not succeed in any ambition that I have which would let people down, the people that I care about.
8. What are your top 3 positive traits that you feel define you? Why?
Loyalty Once it's gained, my loyalty stands unless you do something to lose it.
Ambition I set high standards for myself in order to succeed.
Nurturing If I care for someone, it can be all about them. I would do anything to make a person I care for feel safe and content.
Of course, all of these traits can also be a downfall in some sense and vice versa.
9. What are 3 negative traits that you feel hinder you?
Obsessive I obsess over every minute detail of everything which causes further procrastination.
Controlling I like to be in control and can often be described as bossy. I'll take what ever means necessary to at least feel in control of any situation.
Pessimistic I always have the worst outlook on everything which makes it hard to see the brighter side sometimes.
10. Please tell us why you should or should not be placed in each of the four houses.
Gryffindor-
Positive: I always feel the need to fight for the underdog. In the most stressful situations, I put on a brave front and put up a hard fight.
Negative: I don't know when to quit fighting for what I believe in or want. I'll beat a dead horse until it returns from the dead.
HufflePuff-
Positive: My patience has no end when I want it to. I'm terribly loyal whether it be a person or a cause. I tend to over work myself...at work.
Negative: When I have decided to run out of patience, I am very short tempered. It's hard to gain my loyalty. Left to my own devices, I can be lazy and a procrastinator.
Ravenclaw-
Positive: I am extremely curious about almost everything and a dreamer.
Negative: I place more respect and value in street/survival intelligence than book intelligence. Dreaming often gets in the way of actual learning.
Slytherin-
Positive: I am ambitious in every way possible. I strive to gain success and acknowledgement in my life no matter what it takes.
Negative: I lack the faith in myself to achieve what I set out to do.
11. Which of the four houses do you feel you are least suited for? Why?
Hufflepuff because I am downright lazy. I lack the certain traits that allow a person to simply work and toil endlessly. I would probably be a disgrace to Hufflepuff, in that sense.
12. If you could place one memory in a pensieve, what would it be? Why? I would like to place my worst memories in a pensieve so that, one day, if I manage the success that I am working towards, I can look back and always remember where I clawed my way out of. I think it's utterly important to remember what you were and where you came from even after you're no longer a part of that life because it helps keep you grounded in reality.
13. Many say our choices are what make us unique. How easily do you make choices? Do you often regret those choices later? If it is important, I act instantly based on my personal instincts. If it is an unimportant choice, I waver back and forth. "I do not regret the things I have done; but those I did not do." Regret leads to nothing...every choice made me who I am today.
14. Which of the four Hogwarts Founders (Rowena Ravenclaw, Salazar Slytherin, Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff) which would you be most interested to meet and why? Godric because I would like to ask him why he got to have a sword and the other founders ended up with such ordinary items. I would also like be curious to know whether he and Salazar got along or not and what he thought of him.
15. What do you feel makes Hogwarts so magical? I believe that Hogwarts isn't magical because of the magic. It's the people within Hogwarts that make it what it is. The people fill Hogwarts with mystery and colorful history. If it wasn't the people that made it what it is, it could be a story about any other magical school with ordinary problems.
16. The Second war between Light and Dark is taking place; who do you think will win the final battle? Why do you feel this way? Light has to win because Professor Trelawney predicted it. No, I really feel this way because Harry is the main character. If Dark were meant to win it would be all about Malfoy or Voldemort. However, I think that Light will win at a cost. Lives will be torn apart, lost, and broken. For every battle there is a price to pay, sometimes at a grave cost.
17. What is your favorite spell in the Potter Universe? Why? Accio is by far my favorite. It has so many endless possibilities...every day use, the quick twist in a close battle, unexpected practical jokes.
18. If you were given the opportunity to own and run one shop in Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade, what would it be? Why? Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes becaust it is such a creative shop and unique in its own right. I'm sure that working there would be a blast as well as a certain death sentence...if you ended up as a tester. If I ran the shop, I would produce more hybrid lines of magical creatures like the pygmy puff.
19. From reading the first book, we know Harry was almost placed in Slytherin. If you were the Sorting Hat which of the four houses would you have placed him? Slytherin just for a change of pace. I would like to see if events would have unfolded differently had Harry been placed in Slytherin and befriended Malfoy. I can't help but wonder what Harry do or be like had his bravery been used for evil instead because I find it hard to believe that any person could remain so positive and loving despite living a down trodden life.
20. There are many wonderful sorting communities on Livejournal; Why would you like to be a part of Hogwarts Home? Have you read and understood all the rules? I have looked through all of the sub-communities and read the rules as well as understand them. It seems to be the most thorough and intricate of the Harry Potter communities.
21. How did you hear about Hogwarts Home? If it was a member please give their name so they can earn points. Just browsing Harry Potter communities.
22. Would you like to tell us anything else about yourself? I'm a teacher and I love to give children Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans as a treat. I've found that they love Booger the best. XD
