Title: An Absurd Surprise

Summary: Hermione has some important news for Ron; he doesn't know how to respond.

It took a few seconds for the absurdity of this statement to sink in. “I’m sorry, what did you say?” Ron asked.
“I’m pregnant,” Hermione said again. She couldn’t understand why Ron didn’t understand, “Did you hear me, Ron?”
Ron simply stared at her, wide eyed, as if he’d never seen her before in his life. So many thoughts raced through his mind, including the conversation the two of them had had only a few months ago…
“So we decided…we will wait a little longer to attempt having any children, deal?” Hermione said, reaching for Ron’s hand.
“Right!” Ron said, “But that doesn’t mean we can’t still…”
“Ronald!” Hermione playfully slapped her husband’s arm, “I do not know what you are talking about!” She smiled at him, “But seriously. Are you sure this is what you want?”
“Of course. With me just starting to work at the shop, money is going to be a little tight around here for awhile, so I want to make sure we are alright before we bring another little Weasley into the world.”
“Good!”
“Ron? I said do you hear me?” Hermione shook Ron’s shoulders a little, becoming slightly concerned.
“But...but...how? Why?” Ron squeaked out finally.
“Well, I hope I don’t have to explain to you how…I mean, you were there as well.”
“Hermione! You know what I mean! I thought we decided not to try until we were better off financially!”
“I know what we said, but sometimes these things just happen!” Hermione was beginning to become irritated by the fact that Ron didn’t seem as excited about this as she was. Ron had told her before they were even married that he wanted a large family like his own. She thought he would have been happy about starting a family, even if it was before they wanted.
Ron finally began to look at her as if he understood what she had said. “Hermione…you’re pregnant,” he said taking her hands and beginning to smile.
“I am,” Hermione finally started to smile too. Ron captured Hermione in a powerful hug and began to spin her around. “Now that was the reaction I was hoping to get,” Hermione said as Ron put her down.
“I’m sorry…I just wasn’t expecting this. Of course I am happy!” Ron said, taking her hands once more, “What are we going to name him? What do we need to buy? How many diapers do babies use? I wonder what house he will be sorted into…”
“Ron! Ron! Hold on, there! First of all, I am only 7 weeks pregnant, so we had better worry about the pregnancy first.”
“Right, right, of course,” Ron continued to look flustered.
“And secondly, what if it’s a girl?” Hermione inquired in a slightly snide way.
“Hermione, please! My parents had six boys and only one girl. Genetics say that this little kid is most likely a boy.” Ron crossed his arms defiantly.
Hermione just crossed her eyes as she had so many times before, “Alright, Ron. I guess we will see if you are right!”
