Did you see Children of Men? Pretty decent, but definitely not happy.

Also, post-zombopcalypse book: World War Z. Written by Mel Brooks' son. It's getting really good reviews. TheMan loves it.

Since you've mentioned something of an interest in video games and RPGs, I'll throw out a recommendation to check out the computer games Fallout and Fallout II. The background of the first game is, the world superpowers nuked each other into oblivion. A lucky (?) few in North America, however, took shelter inside vaults carved into mountains. Some 100 years later, you, one of the descendants of those original vault dwellers, are tasked with leaving the vault in search of a solution to the vault's broken water purification system. (There's much more to the game than that.)

The game was released about 10 years ago, so it'll play fine on any modern machine. Finding a copy might be a bit of a challenge.

I really enjoyed Fallout I & II, also. The humor is a bit dark and dorky at times.
