Misc info about the character:

Daniel is taken from Season 1. (the very start of Solitudes)

Personality:

Daniel is foremost a scholar and diplomat. Quiet and geeky, he might seem like the odd ball out in a military organization such as Stargate Command. He's not military and it shows in some of his dealings with other cultures and alien civilizations: he's the first to step in and say hello, rather than immediately accessing if they'll be a danger. Daniel can be a bit flaky, and often tends to go off on his own when he has a theory, assuming that others are keeping up with him even when he hasn't explained what he's doing or where he's going. He's intensely curious about the world around him and possess a passion and wonder for learning and the universe. However, he's far less knowledgeable from the science angle (he shows less patience with other fields that aren't his own). Daniel tends to tunnel vision on new finds and fascinating cultural developments and theories, which can sometimes make him oblivious to danger or politics involving the military's involvement in a mission. He's the first to try and fit in and communicate with a new people.

He can be stubborn and argumentative. He often butts heads with Jack O'Neill, his superior, and General Hammond over the true nature of missions: he tends to question actions that, while they might be beneficial to the SGC and Earth, would be morally unsound and/or cause serious harm to others. Daniel prefers to talk and try to work things out before going for any show of force. He's been shown to be far more trusting in the inherent goodness in people than Jack from the get go and this naivety has caused some problems. He has no problems picking up a gun to defend himself, but would prefer not to in the first place.

Despite his timid appearance, he isn't easily cowed. He's willing to take big leaps, even if it might cost him professionally or be dangerous: such as proposing that the pyramids were actually ten thousand years old right in front of the entire archaeological community. This move would make him the laughing stock among his peers.

He's highly intelligent and can be slightly socially awkward, speaking up in tense situations or saying something that may not have been the best idea. At times, he can be unintentionally arrogant or condescending because of his intellect, and he's not above taking sarcastic pot shots when annoyed. At times, he's shown that he has a bit of a temper and it tends to simmer under the surface before exploding out. He's relentlessly driven by the need to find his wife and save her, as well as a hatred for the Goa'uld. This hatred has gotten the best of him before. When confronted with infant Goa'uld, and despite Sam telling him that killing them would make them no better than the Goa'uld are, Daniel gunned them down anyway. He also pressed Jack into changing their plans to attack Apophis when they were outgunned, despite Sam's reservations. This need to get revenge and find Sha're got the entire team killed.

Don't worry, it was only a flesh wound. But not really.

Daniel secretly harbors the feeling that he merits lower than everyone else, and at times, he hasn't accomplished much. He wants to believe in the best of people but doesn't seem to have that belief when it comes to his own self worth.

Abilities:

Magic, mutant, or otherwise metahuman abilities:

None.

Non-superhuman special abilities of note:

Daniel is an archaeologist, linguist and brainy as hell. He can speak about 23 languages (Earth) and more, such as Goa'uld. He also tends to serve as the resident anthropologist when it comes to dealing with new cultures. He's a pretty decent shot with a gun. He's probably had some survival training by now.
