I don't know what it is but......

It seems like a lot of artists in my age bracket are desperately unhappy. I include myself in that category. It isn't teen angst (as we are not teens), but something else. My Livejournal friends list is just full of hopeless entries.

What is happening, you guys? Is it the stars? The art profession during the recession? Man, what is going ON?

I miss hanging out with you, too :(

Ha, I dunno if Ryn and I would get along! Is she still living in her parents' house?

Art is a really, really difficult field to make a living in. I see what you see as well, and I think a lot of it must have to do with getting older - you want to get more settled, you start wanting different things in your life. A lot of people 'jump the art ship' and start going back to tech schools and finding other careers if they haven't settled in to some sort of job in the industry. Right now society just does not value creation, which is sad... but when people are worried about food on the table and gas in the car it's not so surprising. :< Society needs a huge makeover. I'm really sorry you're unhappy, I hope things turn around for everyone soon!

I often wish I had been born in the 50s (in order to see all the good bands before they split up/died.) Here's just another reason :P

Considering that, and the fact that some people cannot find any jobs anywhere, I'm kind of surprised that any artists can make a living!

You're definitely right about that! The money thing. Also getting older.

It's all that for me. Also major life upheavals. I get that being an artist is going to be hard, but why does it have to be THIS hard? :P

My town had a "starving artist" sale last Sunday, advertising sofa-size original artworks for a maximum price of $69, and it kind of made me sad...made me think of how many hours those artists probably put into their paintings, only to have them desperate to sell them for whatever they could get. I'm not in the art field (any more than as a hobby), but I'm having a hard enough time finding good employment in my own profession. I hope all this is is a statement about the economy, and something that will only get better from here.
