So I just moved to Newport News from southern Illinois. The birds have found my feeders and I've seen all sorts. But one thing puzzles me. There are no (old world) sparrows. I have no seen a single sparrow. I was under the impression that house sparrows, like pigeons, were everywhere. There isn't a lot of agriculture going on here on the peninsula

Yeah, I'd rather they didn't. Native species are preferred. Think I'll set up some bluebird boxes in the spring, see if I can attract any. So far it's been: titmice, doves, cardinals, chickadees, a Carolina wren, some gold finches. Pretty sweet bird action!

I, too, miss being a part of a 'community'. The really hilarious thing is, the best, at least the most welcoming and fun, community that I've ever been a part of is STILL TLKFAA. HA!!!!!
