It snowed this morning, even in my neighborhood. I feel like this is a new thing for Portland - but I could be wrong. Last year's Snowpocalypse has made everyone very paranoid, but it apparently happens every 5 years or so. Snowy weather will occasionally strike me as pretty but mostly I just hate it anymore since the Upper Midwest typically gets PLENTY and it fucks everything up, not to mention contributing to the cabin fever to which you refer. I think part of my brain actually represses the memories of the years' worth of wasted months spent sitting around eating, drinking booze, and listening to overly-depressing black metal while waiting for the "good" half of the year to return. This is the last time, though; I've been missing Phoenix and the desert ever since I returned to Michigan last spring, and my next trip out there will be one-way.
Writing and music do sound like good ways to pass the time, though. What's Duolingo? Practicing a second language sounds wise as well.

Yeah, was born in Vegas and spent a solid 26 years there total. Whenever I see snow it's like ~magic~.
Duolingo is a language learning website, probably the best out there in my opinion. I've been working on German, French, Spanish and a touch of Hungarian (though I can never remember shit for that one).

Nice, I hear that learning languages keeps the neurons plastic and thereby prevents brain-aging, in addition to being interesting. Makes sense that Hungarian would be the hardest since it's not even an Indo-European language. I should brush up on my Spanish first and foremost, but keep thinking it would be cool to learn Japanese or Arabic (for some reason), though both are often considered among the hardest for native English-speakers to master.
