I bought the "GP/Grievous Angel" album first, but I wish I had started with "Gilded Palace of Sin" (the FBB album). A&M did a pretty good FBB comp "Hot Burritos!" that is a good place to start, also, especially if you only listen to the first disc, since the second is all post-Gram and sounds like bad Eagles covers. Hope that was helpful!
Hi cowboy! Thanks for the reply, and the advice. Gilded Palace of Sin is now on my Christmas list. :-) That was the FBB's first album, wasn't it? Sounds like a great place to start.
Hello - just wanted to thank you for suggesting Gilded Palace of Sin. My Christmas wish was fulfilled and I've been listening to it. What really grabs me is the harmonies. Gram and Chris Hillman's voices blend so well it's often hard to tell who is singing. It's definitely a mellow album, but just about every song is a winner (I especially like Wheels, and Hippie Boy is pretty funny).
Thanks again.
P.S. I probably should've asked you first, but I have friended you.
Hi! Funnily enough, I originally heard about Gram through Pamela's book too! I'm so glad to have found him and the Burritos.
There are some books out there about him; I've only read one of them. There's also a fabulous documentary Fallen Angel: Gram Parsons.
Yes, he was very pretty:D I have quite the crush on him.
As far as albums go, I only have "greatest hits" sort of packages. I would say the best one out of those is Sacred Hearts & Fallen Angels: The Gram Parsons Anthology.
Hi! Glad to see people are still watching this site. Thanks for the link to Fallen Angel--now I've GOT to see it. It looks very thorough. His life seems just as fascinating as his music. I couldn't stop thinking about him this weekend. I think I'm quickly developing a crush too. ;-)
