You know, tht's my problem with it exactly. If I wanted to see the story of a man being inspired by Buffy to be a hero, I look at Spike or Xander. I don't need some new character for that, cause quite honestly there's plenty of other fandomes where guys can be the center of the story. Buffy was special in that for once, the guys were the supporting characters to the girls's story instead.
And the depressing thing is that so many people are forgetting that this is not a bad thing. We are not practicing some kind of...misandry in wanting a show where the guy's are the supporting characters. And not even bad supporting characters!
And I would say it strikes a blow against the idea of fluid gender roles that these people seem to think that a guy couldn't identify with or see anything admirable in Buffy because she's a girl.
(Leaving aside the issue of how he seems like just a rewritten Xander.)
