CHAPTER 16

“Junsu-yah… Are you sure you want to do this?” For the umpteenth time Jaejoong’s worried voice tried to persuade his dongsaeng from going through his plan.

Junsu heaved a sigh to gather his leftover patience and mustered a, “Yes Hyung… as I told you a hundred times before, I’m sure,” The younger man answered.

“You really don’t want to stay in our place instead? Tae Hyun can stay in our place too, you know. And Na Young can also visit our place whenever he wants. You don’t need to…”

Junsu threw a pleading look at his brother in law who quickly gathered his husband into his arms and dragged him away from his dongsaeng who looks like he will nearly burst. “Joongie-yah, he already said that he’s sure that he wants to do it. Besides, we can be the one to visit him anytime instead,” he persuaded the raven haired man as he herded him away.

Junsu massaged his temple as his brother’s long protest at his husband echoed along the hospital corridor. He was grateful at Yunho’s presence since he was the only one who can have any resemblance of control over Jaejoong.

“Ready?” A soft voice made him raise his head to the door, where the voice originated, to see Yoochun smiling at him with his two hands full with Junsu’s suitcases.

The smaller man nodded, forcing a small smile on his face as his way of greeting. He saw the other man’s smile falter slightly at his unresponsiveness but Yoochun quickly plastered a bigger grin.

“Na Young is waiting at the canteen downstairs with Changmin and Tae Hyun. He says he’s sick of this room so he preferred to stay down there and eat,” He tried to start a small talk as Junsu silently made his way along his side, making sure that their bodies doesn’t make contact.

Expecting silence as usual, Yoochun quickly followed up his sentence, not wanting an awkward silence to develop between their fragile truce. “Of couse, the fact that Changmin promised to pay for everything might also be an important factor. I bet Youngie-ah will be on a sugar-high today if he decided to challenge Changmin in an ice-cream competition again,” He let out a chuckle, not expecting a response from Junsu.

Today, Junsu was finally being discharged from the hospital after nearly a year and a half stay in the building.  And… he would be staying with Yoochun, to everyone’s surprise.

Yoochun himself was totally shocked. He never expected that Junsu would grant him a chance to have a leap in trying to earn Junsu’s forgiveness since the man himself had not completely warmed up to Yoochun’s approaches as indicated by the long silence the man still held every time Yoochun was around.

Of course, for the past 4 months, Junsu had considerably become… less hostile to Yoochun’s presence. He no longer flinched (as bad) when Yoochun accidentally put his hands on his shoulder. He even stayed still when Yoochun held his hand to inspect his wound when he accidentally spilled his tea on his hands that one time. And for those gestures, Yoochun thanked the heavens.

But for this decision… Yoochun thought that he should sacrifice an ox or a cow to any deities above as a token of gratitude for giving him this chance. He clearly remembered that his heart had stopped beating in disbelief when Junsu agreed to comply with Na Young’s innocent request.

FLASHBACK

“How are you feeling Junsu-sshi?” The kind doctor asked as he checked on Junsu’s condition.

Junsu smiled at the doctor and nodded. “I’m feeling good as usual, Bae-sshi,” He opened his mouth for the doctor to examine it.

The doctor hmmed in response and after a while, he pocketed all of his stuff and nodded approvingly. “Everything looks good. Are you still attending sessions with Song-sshi?” he inquired further.

Junsu’s smile froze slightly but he still answered a small, “Yes,” to the doctor.

“Good. Good. At this rate, I think you will be able to go home really soon, Junsu-sshi”, the doctor’s response was immediately met by an excited “WHOOOP!” from the 8-year old boy who had been watching them attentively.

“Umma! Umma! Do you hear that! You can finally come home with us!” He exclaimed happily and jumped to hug his umma, but he quickly pulled away.

“You’re coming back with us right? With me and Hyunnie and appa,” a reflexive wince didn’t go unnoticed by Yoochun who sat at his spot on a chair near the bed as usual. He looked down bitterly as he knew that Hell would freeze over before Junsu would agree to move back with him. The man could barely look at him!

“You can finally see our new house!” Oblivious to the tense atmosphere between his parents, Na Young continued to babble excitedly. “I can finally show you my bedroom. It is suuuuper big! And I have this soccer ball lamp and a huuuuge Arsenal poster in my room. And you’ll love Hyunnie’s room too! It is full of dolphins! Photos, dolls, blankets… I bet he will think that he’s part dolphin when he grows up….” Na Young finally ceased his rambling as he noticed that Junsu kept quiet when he was talking.

“Umma?” He crawled out from Junsu’s embrace to face his Junsu-appa directly and asked the final question. “You are moving with us, right?”

Junsu looked at the hopeful look on his son’s face and stole a glance at Yoochun who kept his face down. He… didn’t know if he was ready to move back with Yoochun. Hell, he didn’t know if he would ever be ready to share the same living space with the other man for a permanent period. As much as he witnessed how Yoochun had bent over his back to make him… comfortable around the other man, some scars were just too deep to be forgotten easily.

He knew that Yoochun had hoped that someday Junsu would find it in his heart to forgive him… and maybe move back together with him. He had sold their old house, where the his worst memories were  being relived and even went as far as burning all the stuff and furniture present in that house, preferring to figuratively start anew in his new house.

But Junsu also knew that Yoochun would accept his decision to stay as far away from him as possible should he wished to since now Junsu finally gained his freedom back. He let another few seconds pass by as he weighed his options carefully… but when he focused back on Na Young’s expectant face, he knew that he would be willing to regret his decision.

‘Maybe… just maybe… someday I can get back my happy ending too…’

“Yes, Youngie-ah. Appa will definitely move with you. Who will take care of Hyunnie and you if I’m not around?” He pinched his son’s nose playfully and braced himself when the little boy jumped in joy and decided to tackle him back to the bed.

And on the chair beside the bed, Yoochun nearly got his turn to be hospitalized from nearly having a heart attack.

END OF FLASHBACK

And that was why today, despite many oppositions coming from his husband’s enraged brother, Yoochun finally drove his Junsu back to his… their new house, where he hoped he could make new memories to replace the monstrous ones he inflicted on the love of his life.

“We’re here…” He said slowly and turned his body toward the passengers’ seat to see Junsu curled up with Na Young… both were soundly asleep. He let out a soft smile at the sight and mentioned Changmin to go out first and put the also sleeping Tae Hyun back in his room while he handled his other two babies.

Opening the back door quietly, he quickly lifted Na Young up and carried him using his arm. He considered depositing Na Young in his room first before carrying Junsu upstairs too, his husband clearly looked exhausted, but he decided that it would definitely not be a wise idea.

So he opted to shake Junsu’s shoulder slightly and thanked God that he didn’t follow through his first idea as he witnessed how Junsu jerked awake when he touched his shoulder. He swallowed a pained smile as he witnessed how the younger man looked around furiously first before finally the terrified eyes settled to relieved ones when he saw Yoochun and Na Young.

Well, his heart did soar when Junsu calmed down after seeing him… it made him feel like… he could return to being the one to provide support to Junsu instead of inflicting hurt and pain. Although he knew it was probably the sight of the sleeping Na Young that calmed his husband down.

“a..ah… Y, you sca… shocked me,” Junsu swallowed a few times to hide the tremble in his body.

Yoochun knew that Junsu probably didn’t want him to see him in his weak state like this, so he quickly turned away after nodded slightly in apology and pointed at the house to show that they have already arrived.

Breathing deeply for a few times, Junsu forced his body to exit the car. He was… thankful that Yoochun didn’t just leave him alone to walk away first or bothered him with endless questions like he knew his brother would do if he saw him in this state. Instead the other man waited for him silently and smiled warmly at him as Junsu moved slowly beside him toward the house.

‘Maybe… I did make the right decision after all…’ Junsu looked at the sight of the new house in front of him, wondering if it would signify his new beginning too.

P.S a hundred km below the earth the devil said; why do I suddenly feel cold? hahahaha (if u don't get the joke... well, basically chunnie said that hell will freeze before Junsu agreed to go back with him... but he did! so yeaaah)
