CHAPTER 17

“Nooooooooo!”

Junsu jerked up from his usual nightmare and flinched instantly at the bright sunlight that streamed through the curtains. Panting furiously, he forced himself to calm down as he took note of the familiar surroundings of his room.

Glancing at the alarm clock beside him that showed the number 59 changing to 00, he groaned as he realized it was only 6 o’clock in the morning. It was too early to be awake, but it was too late to fall back asleep again since in 30 minutes he would have to wake up and start to prepare Na Young for school.

Since it was like this, Junsu decided to forgo sleep and start his day early instead. He grumpily made his way down the bed and dragged his tired body to the door, wanting to head into the bathroom.

Softly, so not to awaken Tae Hyun whose room was just across his, he opened the door and was just about to tiptoe to the bathroom when he saw the familiar cup in front of his door.

With a small smile, he picked up the cup, knowing that it contained a warm drink made of ginger and honey, and slowly drunk the concoction. It was almost a ritual for him. Every time he was awoken from a nightmare, no matter what time it was, he would always find the drink in front of his room. He knew it was Yoochun’s creation. Junsu remembered that he always made him the exact same drink when Junsu complained of sore throat before… and for this case… sore throat from screaming his head off.

Judging from the drink, he knew that Yoochun is already awake.  Although his room was across the hall, Yoochun somehow had always known whenever he got a nightmare and silently comforting him through something like this: The drinks…

As he stepped into the kitchen after brushing his teeth and washing his face, knowing that Yoochun would have prepared his favorite soup like he always did after Junsu’s nightmare. Dipping his spoon in the bowl of warm soup, Junsu’s mind went back at his life for the past half a year.

Living with Yoochun was… awkward and difficult during the first few months. Yoochun tried to give Junsu as much space as he wanted while at the same time showered him with attention… and apology. This was only one of the examples of the small little things that Yoochun did and was able successfully warm Junsu’s heart. A warm breakfast in the morning, a small musical box with his favorite songs inside ( he always put it on before he sleeps nowadays), waking up late at night despite his tiring job to rock Tae Hyun back to sleep so he wouldn’t disturb the little sleep Junsu had, his favorite cakes every evening…

But at the same time he tried to hide himself from Junsu’s plain view as much as possible. Yoochun was afraid of the rejection or the fear that radiated from Junsu’s body every time they see each other although now the rejection had been much much lesser. And so the first 2 months of his life in the house, he barely saw Yoochun.

And as much as his brain scolded him, Junsu’s heart started missing his husband. Those little presents warmed his heart but it only reminded him about Yoochun’s smile and gentle voice when he talked to him… or Yoochun’s strong arms when he caught him when he accidentally fell that time, his musky and masculine smell that he breathed in whenever he bathed after Yoochun..

Yes, his heart had started to give Yoochun the forgiveness he had begged for so long.

But was his body ready?

His hands still trembled whenever he felt the man’s presence too close to him, and his first reaction was to bolt out and hide in his room whenever he heard Yoochun raised his voice to anyone. He freaked out every time Yoochun reached for his belt although his rational mind knew that Yoochun wouldn’t hurt him… not anymore.

At least now Yoochun had ceased from his nightmare. It was… sadly funny, but Junsu was grateful when he realized that nowadays his nightmare was filled with Kang Dae more than Yoochun.

A soft rustle in the living room told Junsu that Yoochun had probably bathed and was just enjoying his morning newspaper until their babies were awake. Junsu peeked from behind the cupboard to see his husband frowning and massaging his temples.

His heart clenched as he saw how tired and worn out his husband looked. He knew that Yoochun had carried too much burden on his shoulders, mentally and physically.

Every morning he would wake up earlier than Junsu, prepare breakfast for the family, and sometimes when Junsu had his nightmare, the special drink and soup. Then he would help Junsu in preparing Na Young to go to school and entertaining Tae Hyun so he would not cry when Junsu was busy. After that he would send Na Young to school and head for work himself. His lunch break would consist of eating some bread he bought on the way while he picked Na Young from his school and sent him home. Yoochun would then go back to his office and arrived promptly for dinner with his family. Although he was visibly tired, he always listened to Na Young’s story and spared some time to play with Tae Hyun. All of his unfinished work would be done after the kids fell asleep and Junsu knew that Yoochun always waited for him to fall asleep first then he would watch Junsu sleep from the door before retiring for the day.

Junsu knew it because sometimes he purposely tucked himself early to bed so that Yoochun could get a few more hours of sleep.

And he also realized that the reason Yoochun always managed to brew him the drinks and the soup every time he had nightmare, no matter whether it was 3 o’clock in the morning or 5 o’clock in the morning was because he regularly checked up on him… just like he regularly checked up on Tae Hyun.

He wanted to yell at Yoochun for over exerting himself. He wanted to tell him to stop being so sweet towards him, being so caring, being so thoughtful…

But he understood that Yoochun would only stop if Junsu was ready to forgive him

But was he?
