My Favourite Toy 9

Junsu had a favourite toy.
It was red, tiny and shiny. With a sharp silver blade that was ready to nick and prick your skin if you dared to touch it.

CHAPTER 9

Yoochun hesitated for a while before steeling himself and raised his hand to knock on the door. He had not met Junsu’s parents ever since Junsu introduced him as his boyfriend and practically got disowned by his parents for turning gay. He wasn’t thrilled to meet them again, but he guessed that they should know what happened to Junsu, especially since the root of the problem originated from the accident that happened 6 years ago.

He sucked in his breath as he waited for the person behind the door to unlock the door and finally opened the piece of wood.

‘Yeah…. I guess they are not thrilled to see me either,’ he noted as he watched the older man in front of him contorted his face into an unpleasant expression.

“What are you doing here?” He said coldly, the message of ‘You are not welcomed here’ was clearly obvious from the glare in his eyes.

Yoochun gritted his teeth, wishing for a wave of patience from above. ‘I’m only here for Junsu,’ he tried to remind himself. But it was increasingly harder to restrain his temper when facing this kind of bigoted person who kicked his son out for not being in the right orientation.

“I’m sorry for intruding in your time, Kim-sshi,” He swallowed his pride and said those words as polite as possible. “It’s just, Junsu is currently in the hospital…” he observed the man’s face to detect any shock, surprise, worry…

Nothing.

He took a deep breath to steady himself before continuing. “He… has a problem… of cutting himself… and I’m afraid that he had started doing that since… Junho’s death…”

There. Finally the man in front of him showed other reaction beside the cold glare. Now his face had shaped into one of a fury.

“I’m here just to inform you that… and I just want to ask whether you know exactly what made him to do… something like that… Maybe something that happened to him after Junho’s death?” He continued levelly.

He expected anger or disbelief or maybe a burst of exasperation from the older man. But he certainly didn’t expect the fury that exploded from him.

“That good for nothing boy is still causing problems? And he dares to blame Junho for it after killing him? “He glared at Yoochun icily. “Mr .Park, you are the one who had taken our responsibility to take care of him from our hands. So please do not involve us with any matter concerning him again!” He then turned grabbed the door with one hand before suddenly turning back to face Yoochun for the last time.

“and for your information, he had always been like that since before. It’s just his way to attract your attention. It might do you good if you stop coddling him or fall into his attempts,”

Everything stood still for Yoochun. Shock didn’t even describe what he currently felt. When he courted Junsu and proposed to him, he had suspected that Junsu had been neglected by his parents. But the other man still respected his parents so much and had nothing to say but praises for them. Even when he begged Junsu to think more about his happiness and defy his parent’s objection on their marriage, Junsu had been hesitating so much, afraid to disappoint his parents.

He didn’t really think much of them before, only thinking that they were some narrow minded people who cared more about their good reputations and morale compared to their son’s happiness.

Apparently he was wrong.

These people were far worse than that. It was suddenly clear for him the reason why his Junsu changed so much after his twin passed away… the reason why Junsu was now an empty shell, only living through his smiles, the reason why he thought he had to make it up for his twin so much, the reason why he cut himself… and his heart… slowly but deadly.

These people blamed Junsu for everything, even for his depression that slowly made him slipped away from the sanity. He couldn’t believe that they actually knew what happened to Junsu but they still turned blind eyes to their son’s condition.

And still blaming him. Even accusing him for trying to attract attention!

And to think that he had nearly fell into the exact same path… He didn’t manage to see beyond the frail mask that the husband had faithfully put on his face, he didn’t notice the cracks present in Junsu’s personality and sanity.

He was too busy fucking Kim Jaejoong to care.

As Junsu continued to waste away, he took his pleasure in blaming him for his sordid affair, covering his lustful ways by pointing fingers on Junsu’s boringness, passiveness.

What did his wedding vow say again?

Oh yeah, to take care of Junsu for better or worse.

Instead, what he did was to change Junsu from better to worse. He had given Junsu a glimmer of hope of being loved only to throw those dreams back in his face.

Flashback

“Junsu… about me and Jaejoong…”

He swore he saw a feeble twitch on Junsu’s perfect smile, but it was smoothed easily with practice. Too much practice. “Yoochun-ah, I already know… You love him don’t you?”

He thought of lying. He really did. But looking at those deep eyes, he knew that it was useless. Junsu had known everything. Lying wouldn’t make it any better.

“I… I do… But!”

He should have lied. If he thought that the sight of the bland smile was painful enough to watch, the vision of Junsu’s eyes being suddenly void of emotion was enough to haunt his days with guilt.

“Then, it’s settled isn’t it? I’m really okay here. You can just… leave me alone here,” Was the last thing Junsu said when Yoochun dropped him off in front of the psychiatrist office just now. Not even years of practice could mask the resignation in his voice.

End of Flashback

With a growl, Yoochun lunged forward to hold the nearly closed door and slammed it back open. He dismissed the loud exclamation from somewhere inside the house and grabbed the old man by the collar.

“Listen, you piece of… “He somehow managed to restrain his tongue from spitting expletives. “ You, you are the one made him like this! Your hatred left him nothing but a shell with hollow feelings and empty smiles! You don’t deserve him to even spare a care for you!”

With that, he threw the man to the side, feeling a little bit of satisfaction when he heard the sound of a body hitting the door. Still with trembling hands filled with emotions, he entered his car, trying to calm his emotions first before attempting to drive.

‘I will bring you back, Junsu-yah… I will undo all the hurts that I’ve done… that they’ve done… And I will bring your smiles back…  No matter what it takes.”
