ourmutualfiend asked me these questions. It seemed as good a reason as any to post since I haven't done so in, oh, 52 weeks.
The idea is that if you comment to this entry with anything, anything at all, I will ask you five relatively personal questions. You post the questions and your answers in your own journal.
(
1. What did you go to Uni for? And why? What lead to your interest in your major? )

Check out this article: http://nymag.com/news/features/34985/
I found it really interesting, somewhat disturbing but interesting no less. The last paragraph really touched me. "I wanted to have a kind of hip and arty life, but I was just a white-collar working stiff." I think a lot of people pushing thirty have that indecision and yearning.

That is so cool!

Yeah, M&RS was kinda neat. Certainly not a waste in any way.

I just clicked on that article then had to read it all, so poignant.
This resonates with the guys I'm meeting at Team Fag (aka LGBT health organisation) now. Not the scene I knew at 20 of guys out n' proud cos of AIDS & cos they liked being radical, but guys who had kids to wives and are now 30 and going ???
Uh, so hello. You over fandom then? Yes, jasmine, lovely.

Yeah, the article. I think it starts off in one place and then ends up taking you to another place you maybe didn't quite expect. It's complicated, and sad and no easy answers. I think it made me extra sad because you realise how people can complicate their lives by not-acting, not taking opportunities - not even with regards to sexuality or ove, but generally.
So Team Fag, you work there now? Or, no - what's happening?
I wouldn't say I'm over fandom, I'm just not in it! I was running out of steam anyway and then Book 6 killed what I had left. But I'm still vaguely interested. I got over LJ more than anything. But you never know.

I'm volunteering regular at Team Fag and working at a south brissy cabaret cafe, which is slightly Team Fag too actually. Mock uni student at 1 subject per semester purely for the library & conference brain candy.
Book 7 made it worth it after the meh of 6 for me.
I did an article about online communities for a wee women's mag recently (because I'm so the core demographic) which made me like lj more in light of comparing how much spam and punditry other comms feature. That's my completely irrational rationale anyway.

Ahh, I must visit this cafe of yours! I'll be back for new year, so lets do some catching up/hanging. What subject are you doing?
I did enjoy Book 7 actually. The 'actually' because I still don't know how to take the Remus we were given. Brain and heart still reeling a bit, and not thinking much about it at all. So the book overall I liked (& agreed, miles better than HBP) but there's that But I can't deny.
Oh, I totes agree, LJ is definitely the best out there. I dunno, I think I just got sick of blogging, I suddenly had nothing to say. But then all these people mention facebook and myspace and I'm all 'pfft, kids these days'.
