Seaside towns always end up getting me. The trashy neon lights, the piers and, most of all, the amusement arcades. Twice now, in Brighton and Portsmouth, I have found myself change from amused observer to very serious, very involved player. It's the 2p machines - I get addicted to them. Ended up winning two chupa-chups the other night after ( Read more... )

You'll make it. Just think of the rewards awaiting you.

I remember Blackpool being yes, the British Vegas. Or rather Reno. Someday we'll have to trade tourist traps stories- I can tell you about South of the Border and Pedro's Sombrero; you can tell me about World's largest jar of Vegimite or something.

Ha, I convinced a friend this very night and the beautiful thing is I didn't actually have to persuade her at all. Gold! Of course you have been already - too cool. Tell me your thoughts.

Largest jar of vegemite I don't know about, but we do excel in large foodstuffs - Big Pineapple, Big Banana, Big Prawn ... [list continues].

did i pooh-pooh blackpool? cos i would so go with you. brighton was pretty amusing. it's a summer thing though, no? don't think it would have been much fun in the middle of winter. shame. seaside towns make me think of blurry polaroids, rock-hard sweets and pasty, freckly people by a pebbly beach. i want photos.
btw dear, those photos in my package from scotland were simply marvelous! *smooches*

I don't think I suggested it because it would have been abysmal in January. Apparently September-November is the time to go because they light up miles of the coastline for the 'Illuminations'. Brighton is quite nice but it can be pretty chilly there even in summer, so. Like Brighton Portsmouth has a pebble beach but 'seen one seen them all' I didn't take any pics. I took lots of photos of the amusement arcades (is that the British term?) instead.

simply marvelous!
were they? I can't actually remember, apart from the Orson one.
