The first H/D fic I ever read was definitely "Irresistible Poison". It was still a WIP and I remember waiting extremely impatiently for new chapters. :)

It really is a good choice for first-fic huh? Despite being pretty OCC it's a really gentle way to get a taste of H/D.

It sounds like we both got into fandom in a similar way. I didn't even know fanfic existed, either ( ... )

That is pretty similar. I know I couldn't have just jumped into H/L right off the bat but it's really the only thing I can remember from 10 years ago. (Wish I kept a diary...)

It had taken me two years to get up the courage to read HBP and when I did I wanted to kick myself for wasting so much time. So much UST! (〃゚∇゚〃) However, I still haven't read DH... I already know all the spoilers but I can't bring myself to read it.

I know, right! It had taken me years to develop a taste for being able to tell good-fic from bad-fic. The endless amount of good-fic in this fandom has pretty much turned me off of canon, which is why I have read DH yet, and books in general. I can't stand JKR's writing at all anymore, compared to some BNF-writers JKR just can't compete in skill. Lomonaaeren would slaughter her in a write-off. LOL!

The fandom is just better. (Thank you! ღ )

I couldn't agree more. Aside from not being crazy about her H/G pairing in the canon books, I think she felt compelled to tie things up a bit too neatly. I prefer fanfic because some of the most skilled writers are also ones who are not afraid to leave some things unsaid. Not everyone has to be paired up with a Weasley or have the expected 2.5 children, the Ministry job and the perfect life...married. I had no trouble pairing Harry with Draco. JKR sort of set it up, albeit unintentionally, when she spent seven books dwelling on their angsty relationship. It was an easy jump from there to UST.

And I agree about Lomonaaeren and a few others. Consistently well thought out, well-written fic.
