The Folklife

A few weeks ago, a guy on the floor, who was moving out, gave me his old dvd player, bringing me a few cautious steps into the 21st century. And I'm spending way too much money on new movies. If you're up for something eerie, try "Carnival of Souls," a veritable cult classic with one of the most unnerving ghouls, I think, in all of cinema ( Read more... )

Me and the Ghoulies Down by the Pier xreckusx June 5 2004, 13:06:50 UTC
I to love, love, love Carnival of Souls, nothing like Atheist Organ Players to really turn your crank. You mentioned the international film festival, and I just saw a French movie that I very much enjoyed called LOVE ME IF YOU DARE. A very bold and daring ending on a compelling Romantic Comedy. Congrats on graduating and all that...what's the next chapter in the life of Casey Broadwater??? I see a fruitful career as, say, a longshoreman...who knows? Still waiting for the next great American novel...no pressure.

Allrighty then, well peace out and I'll chat with you soon,

J

They're coming to get you, Barbara! hidingmywings June 16 2004, 20:22:20 UTC
For one thing, Jon, you've got me addicted to horror movies. Especially of the zombie variety. I now own all the Romero zombie films, plus the Raimi ones (minus Army of Darkness, which I've yet to procure), and I owe it all to you...lol. Sounds crazy, i know. Well, I've just been looking for a new job...something more applicable to my, ahem, degree. I've been playing lots of music and trying to write, though I've been terribly undisciplined. I'm still dating Juli, and we plan on getting hitched and going to Japan for awhile to teach la ingles. After that, who knows? Longshoreman does sound promising, but I'm leaning towards writing/teaching or (I can dream, can't I) combining my twin loves of writing and photography and somehow getting involved with film. Are you back in Hollywood, or still out in H-town? I still need to make it down there to see you sometime. That would be rad. Talk to you later!

Good to hear from you my friend. Congrats on still dating Juli. The marriage/Japan thing sounds fabulous, and I must admit I'm a bit jealous. I'm often dreamt of leaving LA for the land of the Rising Sun, at least for awhile...I blame all the damn movies, but I love Japan ( ... )

I wrote this once before, but i guess it didn't go through. hidingmywings June 22 2004, 19:34:57 UTC
I agree. We need to coerce clinty boy into getting his pale white frame out here. Let's make a movie. I'm working on some ideas for a screenplay, actually. Was it Woody Allen who said "All tragedy, in time, becomes comedy"? Something like that, about the absurdities that happen to people when they are at their most serious, vulnerable, and distressed. I'll try to give you a call sometime captain. Cheers and congratulations on the jobs!
