Just a random story idea thing that I came up with a while ago...and am just now posting it on here...
Standing at the edge of the lake, the young boy looked out across the blue water, staring into the green of the forest on the other side. There was something over there that needed to be found. How did he know this? He was told that there was something within the forest that waited to be found by the boy, and no one else. Knowing there would be no possible way for him to find a way out of the current situation, the boy agreed to search out the mysterious thing.
Knowing he couldn’t prolong his entrance into the forest any longer, the boy began his walk around the lake’s edge. To the eye the lake didn’t look that large, but once you began the trek around it, it seemed to grow twice its original size.
It took the boy most of the day to reach the appointed side of the lake. As he reached the point of entrance, the sun’s rays slowly reached out through the trunks of the trees and onto the boy’s face. Deciding to stop for the rest of the night, the boy moved onto the shore of the lake and lay down, one arm under his head for support, and fell asleep.
The boy was awoken suddenly by the water of the lake playing with his feet. Sitting up, the boy realized that he had some how slid down to the edge of the water during the night. Standing up, the boy rubbed the remaining sleep out of his eyes and looked once again at the forest. Without another moment’s hesitation, the boy walked straight into the forest, unsure of what to expect.
Most of the day was spent searching for the needed item. Reaching the heart of the forest around mid afternoon, the boy knew he was in the correct area. Realizing he had no idea what the item looked like, he tried to think about what the mysterious figure had told him days before.
The item you need to keep your village safe is hidden within the northern forest. In the heart of the forest you will find it. I will not tell you what the item looks like; you will have to decide that on your own. I will, however, tell you this. The item is not what you will expect it to be. It is something that blends in with the forest surrounding it, yet it will stand out like white on black. Remember, this item will keep you and your village safe from all things destined to attack it.
With that fresh in mind, the boy began wandering about the area in search of something that blended in yet easily stood out. The only things his eyes rested upon were trees, the dirt they grew from, and the grass that covered the ground. Scanning the area around the trunk of a large tree, the boy’s eyes caught sight of something. Walking to the tree, the boy looked even closer at it. It was a stone; yet it wasn’t. It blended in with the surrounding area, yet it stood out as if it didn’t. It was the item the old man had told him about; the item that would keep his village safe. Picking the rock up, the boy looked at it. Its surface was smooth, his fingers easily running over the edges. It was warm sitting in his hands, which caught him off guard. Turning it over, the boy noticed a very detailed pattern etched on the back. It looked like a series of spirals that jutted out from one main line that ran across the broad part of the rock. Unsure of the pattern’s significance, the boy pocketed the rock and made his way out of the forest knowing he had the one item that would keep him and his people safe for eternity from whatever may hunt them.
