Most likely doesn't, which is the sad part. Income tax is done away with, which alone will benefit the poor. And he wishes to drastically shrink the size of government, which one would assume means less taxes over all regardless where they come from. But sales tax would undoubtedly increase out of necessity, I'm definitely uncertain as to just how much. So maybe they will get to keep more money even after sales tax, they will probably also have to spend more money without social security style benefits.
In short I like him because he is honest and constant, but I see him as intelligent enough to know to change things should they need to be changed and how to do it. But I doubt I'll be voting for him.
Actually, you guys are forgetting the #1 source of income for the government: investments. Investment earnings by the government are approximately twice the size of what is collected from the income tax (federally, states can differ). The government owns lots of stock in LOTS of companies, real-estate, people who paid bonds, etc. Some problems, though: these investments are ever considered by the Budget Committee, so they are never even though of for benefiting the budget.
I can quite easily see how he came to many of the conclusions that he has. I just tend to not agree with him based on other experience or readings. I don't think he is a loon, though I have seen videos of him being rather outlandish in debates that happened decades ago. I think he is something that we haven't seen in awhile, he represents a batch of ideas that haven't really been talked about for a good deal of years and I don't think any of them are out right stupid. That being said I disagreed with those ideas the first time I heard them but saw their base, as opposed to the current line of neo-conservatives who have always seemed batshit insane to me.
In short I think half baked is a bit far, but I will agree on "wrong."
