Thursday night I went with my sister and cousin to see Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt in concert, and honest to god it was one of the sexiest things I've ever seen.
I wasn't a huge Lovett fan, but I'd heard his music, and I had absolutely no idea who John Hiatt was, but we wanted to go to a concert and acoustic shows are always golden, so we thought

Okay, I won't cry at the "old guys" (Lyle is only 10 years older than I am)! I just wanted to share my squee of fangirl joy when I saw this post. I have seen Lyle Lovett in concert every summer since 1991, either at venues close to home or traveling afar (Red Rocks in Colorado is incredible). I've seen him with his large band, his small band, alone and with other artists (K.D. Lang, John Hiatt, etc.) I love his music, but I can hear that at home. What I love about seeing him in concert is how insanely talented a musician he is, how he surrounds himself with other amazingly talented musicians and totally geeks out at how great they are, and how funny and smart he is. My summer is not complete without him.
Okay, I'm done gushing...

This happened when I saw Bob Dylan a couple of years ago. I went to his concert on a whim, not really being a huge fan, but came out absolutely in love with him. And now the same thing's happened with Lovett. I'll definitely be seeing him again if I get the chance.
My favorite part of the show was watching him watch Hiatt play. I mean, both of them really, you could just tell they loved being up there making music. And that's the best part of any concert really. Seeing the musicians make something different than what you hear on their cds every day.
*sigh* It was awesome.
