1. Basic Stats:

Kakei Shun (筧駿)
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Height: 191 cm (6'3")
Race: Human
Birthplace: Japan

2. Canon Information:
Eyeshield 21, like most other sports manga, features a wide variety of rival teams that the protagonists, the Deimon Devil Bats, must face and win against in order to achieve their goal of playing in the Christmas Bowl. One such rival team member is Kakei Shun, the tall linebacker for the Kyoshin Poseidon.

Serious almost to a fault, Kakei is completely devoted to his team and ensuring that they move onto the semi-finals, so that he can meet the Eyeshield 21 that he met in America on the field once more. Upon meeting Kobayakawa Sena's Eyeshield 21, he immediately denounces him as a fake and swears to defeat the imposter, no matter what.

Needless to say? Kakei Has Issues and spends much of his time slamming down teacups while making said dramatic statements. He takes his training and everything it includes very seriously, to the point where he's a bit of a dork about it. Beneath his strict demeanor, though, is a young man who really does care a lot about his team, particularly the enthusiastic Mizumachi, and works as hard as he can so that they can succeed -- even if it does make him look absolutely ridiculous at times.

3. Skills and Powers:
Kakei is known in-game for his "high wave" defense along with Oohira Hiroshi and Oonishi Hiroshi, and is referred to as the "high wave ace." ... he also has the "Moby Dick anchor" in the anime. God, why.

ASIDE FROM THAT, Kakei's relatively strong for a boy his age, and his height puts him at an advantage. He's capable of stopping a normal person with just one hand, placing a lot of pressure on the other. Or. Something.

4. Quick List of Friends and Foes:
Mizumachi Kengo (Teammate, friend)
Oohira Hiroshi (Teammate)
Oonishi Hiroshi (Teammate)
Kobanzame Osamu (Teammate, Captain)

Eyeshield 21 (Rival? made a promise to the one from Notre Dame)
Deimon's Eyeshield 21 (Rival)

Basic Information

The big reason Mizumachi and I chose not to link to the Wiki entry on Kakei and Mizumachi is because it is horribly inaccurate. It refers to the Poseidon aces as being exactly like Shin and Sakuraba, respectively. Although Kakei has "shinier hair," apparently. Which couldn't be further from the truth!

Kakei is similar to Shin in some ways. He's not inclined to talk as much, he has dark hair, he plays the linebacker position, and he's driven to win. And ... that's about it.

When he was in elementary school, Kakei was seen as an ace because he was already 180 cm or so at a young age. When his coach criticized him for only relying on his physical strength, Kakei ignored him, thinking he was an idiot. It wasn't until he moved to America a couple years later and learned the hard way that strength wasn't everything. Disgraced, Kakei quit Phoenix Middle School's football team.

It's implied heavily that after he quit the team, Kakei became a delinquent, hanging out at all hours of the night with various shady types and women, drinking on the hoods of cars, etc. When he heard about Eyeshield 21, who is also Japanese, he was drawn to one of Notre Dame's games and witnesses Eyeshield's abilities firsthand. Kakei realized that his old coach was right, and that he'd been an idiot.

From then on, Kakei really started to train, trying to figure out how to use his height in game. Phoenix's coach, after seeing this, decided to put Kakei in their game against Notre Dame at the last minute. Kakei attempted to stop Eyeshield 21, but failed, only managing to blow away his Blocker. Despite that, Eyeshield 21 was still impressed.

"I'm sorry. I'll see you later! Although, I don't know whether that 'next time' will be in America or Japan. When we next meet in a match, I want to face you properly! That's a promise!"

Eyeshield 21's promise drove Kakei to train his heart out. He quickly became the Phoenix ace due to his natural talent, and was slated to play from the start in Phoenix's next game against Notre Dame. But when that game came around, Eyeshield 21 was not on the roster.

Kakei attempted to find Eyeshield 21 numerous times, but failed to produce any leads, other than that he had returned to Japan. No one knew his name, and no one knew exactly where he had gone other than that.

From then on, Kakei has been pushing himself so that he can meet up with and play against Eyeshield 21 again. Eyeshield 21 got him off of drugs was essentially responsible for him finding a path for himself, and is everything he is aiming for.

To sum it up? Kakei has the capacity to be social. He's not a lost cause when it comes to it. However, he doesn't really want to. He's more focused on football and meeting up with Eyeshield 21 again so he can keep his promise. What this means for Kakei is that once he settles in and realizes that that's not going to be possible in camp, he'll start to branch out and really talk with people.

Eyeshield 21 isn't the only thing he's aiming for, though. Initially, it was that, but after joining the Kyoshin Poseidon, Kakei seemed to grow to really love the team, and does whatever he can to help them advance, treating everyone as equals despite the fact that he's an ace in his own right. Even though Kakei is the one that usually comes up with the plays, he always defers to Kobanzame, the team captain, and asks what he thinks is right.

BASICALLY, despite his pissy demeanor and the fact that the majority of his icons are all ">:(" expressions, Kakei's polite and probably more well-spoken than Sakuraba.

But he still has shinier hair than Shin. >:
