~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:HOOBOY DOES ZELDA HAVE THESE.
First of all, and foremost, Zelda has the ability to transform into an alter ego known as Sheik. This was to hide from Ganondorf for seven whole years because being the princess in a Nintendo game, she's pretty much kidnap priority numero uno. This makes her look completely different, to the point of looking very much male. Magic is awesome! She is still, however, very much the same Zelda, just with magic that can make her look different enough to hide her from pure evil. Zelda doesn't have much need for this persona on board the Thor, but she will use it if an undercover, undetectable identity is needed for any mission. The only ones who would be privy to it would be castmates who are in the know, and anyone Zelda trusted enough to let know.
Zelda also has some sort of psychic ability in the fact that she can see visions of the future in her dream that are always very oddly specific in their symbolism. Before using this little aspect of her personality, however, I would contact anyone she'd become involved in 'foreseeing' some futurestuff with, of course. And I imagine the ability would be saved for something very important as it is.
In general, her magic is strong. She can hold down Ganon of all people long enough for Link to administer a final blow. While she is strong, Zelda isn't necessarily going to opt to be a combatant if she can help it. If the situation arises, however, she will probably leave the fighting to her alternate persona, Sheik. In a desperate situation, she would of course use her abilities on their own.
How would they use their abilities?: ... To be honest, as I was writing the abilities section above, I didn't realize I pretty much filled out this question already in how she'd use them. So I guess the above section is the answer, here? She'll use them in tight situations and when people are in danger or she has visions. She won't flaunt her magic by any means, because that's pretty much just a recipe for danger in her eyes.
Appearance: Zelda has two sets of appearances;
Sheik and
Zelda. Sheik takes on the appearance of someone born of the Sheikah tribe, with tan skin and red eyes, and a bodysuit and wrappings that obscure her face and hair. Sheik is known to look masculine, but Sheik is Zelda, so I won't go into age-old debates about whether Sheik is a boy or girl. Sheik is Zelda, and Zelda is Zelda so that's how I'll be playing it.
Princess Zelda looks like the perfect personification of a princess, despite her rumored tomboyishness. She has long blond hair, blue eyes, a pink dress with a lot of detailing and fancy stuff all over it, and pointed elflike ears. People in canon call her very pretty, etc. She's very standard princess as you can see.
Background/Personality: Once upon a time, before time, there were three goddesses who created the land. Din, of power, Farore, of Courage, and Nayru, of wisdom, were all responsible for the creation of the world, and had left their mark on it as well. When they had left to the heavens, they left behind a Triforce-- a holy relic that would give the person holding it untold power-- if the person possessing it was good, the land would enter a prosperous age. If the person holding it was evil, darkness would be cast over the land. And our story begins with a fairy boy.
Living in the forest with other Kokiri as long as he could remember, Link was the kid who didn't have a fairy, which I guess in the eyes of the Kokiri is the mark of fairy puberty??? I don't know. Anyway, one called Navi who has the hate of all gamers in the world flew to him and told him to get thee to the great Deku Tree, the being of the forest who gave life to the Kokiri, because Link had a DESTINY to uphold and DESTINY is not something you fuck with in a Zelda game. Apparently, the Deku Tree was cursed by this douchebag named Ganondorf and was slowly dying, and even though Link defeated the monster, that wasn't going to stop. He granted Link the spiritual stone of the forest and told him to seek Princess Zelda in Hyrule. Which is who I'm apping, so I am all too happy to hop to this topic.
Zelda waited for him in the courtyard, having a dream of his arrival. The two discuss the future of Hyrule, spy on Ganondorf in the castle, and hatch a plan to get to the Spiritual Realm where the Triforce was hidden before him. Zelda's obviously unable to leave the Castle, but Link was able to retrieve the stones and come back... and his nightmare came true, as Ganondorf was chasing Impa and Zelda out of the castle, and with an arm like a pro pitcher, Zelda threw a special artifact, the Ocarina of Time, into the castle moat, which Link then got and then Zelda taught him a new Ocarina song telepathically and he went to the Temple of Time and then we all get to realize Link was being used as a pawn by Ganondorf to collect the stones for him and open up the Sacred Realm without him needing to even lift a finger. He snatches up the Triforce when Link goes and pulls a sword out of a stone and All Is Fucked.
No seriously. Link fast forwards to about seven years in the future where his body has grown up, and the world is in shambles because of Ganondorf's schemes. However, all is not lost! A man named Rauru tells him if he awakens the seven sages, they'll be able to seal away Ganondorf in the sacred realm and that's a good thing. However, a mysterious boy named Sheik pops out as soon as Link is only starting to get used to his instant puberty and tells him that five of the sages need to be awakened, as their temples are contaminated with monsters and they don't have the power to awaken if their temples have monsters in them because Ganondorf sucks. Link proceeds to do this, and gets to know Sheik as he slowly transforms Hyrule, little bit by little bit, back into the way it once was, without such darkness cast o'er the land. And little bits of Zelda's enthusiasm creeps into Sheik's voice but sshhhhh we're not supposed to know it's her at this point in the game.
But yeah, Link sure does awaken those sages! And then Sheik reveals herself to be Zelda and also the seventh Sage! Hooray! Another thing to Hooray about is that the Triforce split into three because once again, Ganondorf sucks. Ganondorf still holds the Triforce of power, but as fortold, the other two pieces went to two different people-- one went to Link, who had the Triforce of Courage, and one went to Zelda, holding the Triforce of Wisdom. Zelda then gave Link some sweet light arrows that were the last key needed to defeat Ganondorf and he... puts her in a crystal. WELL, she had to get kidnapped eventually. The sages help out Link and he goes to fight Ganondorf and save Zelda, wins, the tower crumbles and we get a stupid timed puzzle where they both run out of the crumbling tower, and then Ganondorf rises AGAIN and hulks out into Ganon and him and Link duke it out in a ring of fire. Thanks to Zelda's magic, he eventually retrieves the Master Sword and deals the final blow, the Sages seal him away, the end! Yay!
Zelda and Link share one last final moment, with her acknowledging that her forwardness and hastiness in her youth made it her fault that Ganondorf was able to use Link for entering the Sacred Realm. Though she looks terribly sad about it, she asks him for the Ocarina back, and sends him back to his own time, back to when he was a kid. The credits roll... and the first thing Link does when returning to his youth was go visit her in the courtyard of the castle, where the first met.
And that's the end.
Personality-wise, Zelda is serious and goal-oriented, but plenty of that can be attributed to her devotion to her kingdom. In her youth, on certain cues and saying certain things, Zelda is cheerful and happy, believing in a prosperous future once they eliminate the threat to come and help the recovering Hyrule. She believes in her duty to the kingdom firmly, and takes it seriously enough that her adult guardian believes her and believes in her dreams of the future. As she grows up, of course, during the seven years Zelda hides as Sheik, she becomes distant and aloof, always working behind the scenes to help Hyrule while Link is busy being knocked out and growing up-- and when she does encounter him seven years later, she acts the same.
But she slowly changes with every conversation with him as 'Sheik'. She talks to him at first with the same distant aloofness-- not letting him know it is and has been her all along, of course, for their safety, but as time goes on, Sheik gets more... shall we say, excited-- or rather, optimistic, as Link saves more and more things in Hyrule-- it's Zelda's personality shining through even though Link doesn't know anything about it. Happiness that her kingdom is slowly being restored to its once beautiful state at his hands.
When it finally becomes time to reveal her secret, she apologizes to him for it, but she's ready to entrust her safety into his hands (before getting put into the crystal :( sigh) But the two of them fight together against Ganondorf and Ganon and eventually save the day-- and when it's time to take back the Ocarina of Time and send Link back to his home time, the sadness is practically written all over her face because of the times they shared saving the kingdom, but ultimately does it for his own good-- whether this implies she has feelings for him or not has been the subject of debate for years and I'm afraid to touch it with the ten foot pole I'd use to touch the ten foot pole I'd touch it with. Let's say it's because her bond grew with him so much and her uncertainty of what would happen after she sent him back was what gave her reason for pause.
Zelda is tough, tomboyish, and doesn't mind getting her hands dirty if it's for the sake of her kingdom. Yes, she got kidnapped at the end, but... I mean, it's Nintendo, come on. She spent most of the entire game avoiding that very specific thing and doing good things for her people, even if it wasn't under her usual persona. All in all, a devoted woman, ruler, and guide for her kingdom and her people, with a soft side as well as a tough side-- well rounded, and of course, being the one to bear the Triforce of Wisdom, very wise.

1st person sample: [ This device is so out of her element that the princess has no idea what to do with it-- but she's a fast learner. Recording on-- you catch a glimpse of her face, recording off. Voice on, a brief moment of static, voice off. The next few moments is spent reading the guide and being unable to parse the recent happenings. She's clueless, and not a single prophetic dream could help her out even if she had one.
She opts for voice. A ruler must be confident even in situations where she's blindly stumbling in the dark. ]
My name is Zelda. I am the Princess of Hyrule.
[ And there's a lengthy pause after that. What to say? Everything had been saved, and she'd been kidnapped-- no, her world, her purpose, her kingdom was gone after everything she went through. Every audible tremble in her voice was silenced when she turned the communicator back on. ]
I'm confused, I won't lie. I've been through many difficult things lately, and I thought they were finished with-- and now, I am told that my kingdom is finished with permanently. While I see so many of you living your lives normally, accepting this apparent fact mutually-- I... myself, cannot bring myself to accept it.
I've fought too hard for it, you see. [ There's a smile in her voice. A mourning one, but a smile nonetheless. ]
Forgive my lack of cooperation on that front. I'll look into what I can, but any information any of you can give me would be appreciated; especially regarding that of worlds, but even learning about something as small as this guide would be of help. I'm left a bit confused at the moment.
[ And a pause. ]
And if... someone would happen to recognize my voice, I request that you contact me immediately. Thank you.

3rd person sample: Her paperwork was done with. Her quarters, simple and undecorated. This was where she would apparently be starting out. Seven long years acting in hiding as Sheik didn't make her deterred by it; in fact, in any other situation, if she just hadn't had a long, lengthy session with paperwork that had the kindness to always remind her that her world was gone, the opportunity to have a brief time in her life to let out her tomboyishness before returning to her purpose, her kingdom, would have been a small dream that she'd entertain, but not think possible.
Now she wanted everything to go back to the way it was. You can't save a world then let it slip through your fingers like water. There wasn't a single thing, not a whisper from the goddesses that would have ever let her know that this would be the next chapter in her life, when she was so ready to rebuild it all, to let time smooth over the cracks and crevices and heal her kingdom scorched by fire and frozen in ice. She'd finally learned that a leader wasn't someone who sat at a throne, but someone who fought for their kingdom no matter what the situation, even if it was in disguise, even if it was as a warrior. She was so ready-- so ready to take it all and give that wisdom to her people, to make sure they never had to suffer that future again.
She sat down on her bed, with plain dressings, ignoring the door's cheerful voice when she entered because she had enough of the bizarre, the unwanted today. Zelda understood what she would have to do. There was no getting back to Hyrule until someone told her the way. She would have to undertake that role once again-- working quietly towards her goal as she blended in with the crowd. Raising a war to find home amidst people that, despite their situation, seemed so peaceful was wrong. They all had stakes left in what their home used to be, if that was the truth. Rallying them or even trying to would be foolish.
She took off her earrings, removed the crest from her forehead, slid the gloves off her arms one at a time. There was no reason to look like a princess in her private quarters, to let the crown and the symbols hang from her and weigh on her and remind her of where she should be.
There was a job to do.
There was a way to do it, even if she had no idea.
Whether she would do it as a Sheikah, or a Princess, or simply as Zelda was up to her and her future to decide.
