Fic: Ike/Soren

.........I have only myself to blame for this.

I suck at essays. Fics are more my fort. And SOME PEOPLE take blatant advantage of it, even if they didn't know about my weakness for writing.

If Ike had been born a mage, Soren would bet his soul that the element would have been fire.

Ike is too intense for wind, to human for ice, too passionate for thunder. He is heat and comfortable warmth and slow-burning passion. Soren has seen him enter a room, smile, and somehow manage to make the room seem warmer, friendlier. He has also seen the flickers of heated anger that sparks in Ike's eyes when something has enraged him. And although he has never been witness to Ike displaying any kind of lustful passion, he's fairly sure that as a teenager Ike is probably possessed of a lot of that kind of heat.

But this belief is more than what he sees.

In alchemy, fire or heat was used as a catalyst for reactions. To make two unlikely things come together and combine seamlessly. Ike, even if he doesn't know, does that. A little too often, Soren thinks.

He brings together a mercenary company full of conflicting personalities. He brings together the empress of a country and the prince of the race she had inadvertently destroyed. He brings together two species of humans and creates an army. All the while thinking that it was merely due to luck. It frustrates Soren sometimes. But only sometimes because usually, he's too frazzled by Ike's energy and terrifyingly uncomplicated chain of thoughts. Ike goes from A to Z, burning a path through all the points in between, and lands on his feet. Soren is pretty sure that if he were to give that method a try, he would only end up with enemies he couldn't hope to defend himself against.

However, Ike...Ike is a miracle of charisma. People respond to something in him; perhaps that inner fire that Soren could always detect. Or perhaps the wide-eyed innocence and belief that everyone harboured something good. Soren would never know.

But he didn't really need to. All he had to do was follow Ike and protect him from all the dangers that Ike couldn't see. And he's almost a hundred percent sure that with the two of them working together, nothing would stop them.

Wind and Fire made a terrifying combination after all.

In other words...Ike/Soren forever.
