Mine wasn't picked, but it was another cat!

I think this applicant would enjoy being a Caracal. Felines are generally intelligent, like the applicant. And this one prefers being on its own and is rather reserved, like the applicant. They're brown, matching the applicant's hair, and have rounder faces. They're an earth animal with fur. They're crepuscular, so they'll be active at the applicant's favorite time of day. Caracals are very agile, the fastest cat of its size, so they have the mobility the applicant wants. The applicant is also a cat person and caracals are closely related.

I also see a dog breed for this applicant. They want an animal that can swim but who lives on land, and who is mobile and active and enjoys exploring. They are reserved and intelligent and less social, though. I think the australian cattle dog is best. The AKC says about them, "Happiest in wide open spaces, ACDs are very high-energy dogs and extremely intelligent, so they need a job - such as herding, obedience or agility - to keep them happy. While wary of strangers, the breed bonds closely to its family, though the owner must establish themselves as the pack leader. Their smooth, short coat requires only occasional baths and brushing."

Mine didn't get picked, but it was another breed of dog!

Optimistic, impulsive, loves people, and wants to be energetic and protective? Definitely sounds like a dog to me! Especially considering this applicant loves dogs. I think she would be suited for a Boxer. These dogs are known for being headstrong, matching the applicant's impulsiveness. They're good family dogs, as they love people and are outgoing. However they were bred to be guard dogs, so they can protect their families as necessary, but are not "threatening". Boxers are known for being very energetic dogs. They can come in dark brown, matching the applicant's hair. They are not one of the largest breeds of dogs, but they aren't small by any means. Dogs are earth animals and usually live in a temperate climate. They are crepuscular, so active in the early morning, the applicant's favorite time of day. They have paws and fur, aren't exotic, and generally have good eyesight, fitting all the applicant's wants.

This applicant's outgoing nature and desire to protect their loved ones does remind me of a dog, which makes sense because they feel connected to dogs. She would like a high energy animagus, so I searched for high energy dogs. She would best fit an affectionate dog as well. I took out of my list those dogs that do the best in hot weather because the applicant prefers cooler weather, or at least temperate and not hot. Also given how she leaves her hair unkempt I imagine she would want an animagus with an easy-to-maintain coat. I decided on the german shorthaired pointer. The AKC states, "The German Shorthaired Pointer thrives as part of an active family. He is an even-tempered, intelligent and loyal family watchdog that has enthusiasm for its work. An athlete, he can adapt to his living situation, but requires consistent exercise. The GSP’s short coat sheds, but grooming is minimal."

Mine got picked!

Beauceron

my optimism!
be able to cheer up the people around me when they're having a hard time.
I love other people!
--> People-pleaser often makes me think of dog. Dogs are social animals like you. Plus you mention wanting to be an earth animal.

I come from an agricultural background
--> I often associate Beauceron with agriculture, probably because they were a lot of them on the farms around where I grew up and I think that breed would be a good fit for you.

I'd like to have a lot of energy,
I also love a lot of the working dogs from my family's farms.
--> You mention having a lot of energy, but it also transpires from your whole application. A working dog fits well with that. Plus Beaucerons are very protective of their family which you'd like being able to do.

Dogs, definitely dogs, absolutely dogs.
--> I love it when I read an application, get a feeling about an animal... and it turns out they love that particular animal.

I'd love to hear what you chose and why even if your choices weren't picked! Just for curiousity's sake.

Thanks for all the votes!

Hey! Here's my vote for you:

I was already thinking along the lines of "fox" before I even got to the applicant's affinity for them. So I believe she would enjoy being a Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes). Foxes have a reputation for being cunning and clever, so this goes along with the applicant. The applicant prefers a small group of friends and red foxes stay in small family groups. They are also red (obviously), matching the applicant's hair, and are an earth animal. They are active at night, like the applicant, and suited for her favorite kind of weather. They can run up to 50km/hr, have heightened senses, and have paws, fur, teeth, and claws, all things the applicant wanted.

Here you go, my dear :D

Applicant #531:

As fun as it would be to give you a platypus as your animagus form, your application tells me that you would be much better suited to an Common Bushtail Possum. Possums are nocturnal creatures and very sharp claws and teeth, so you'd be able to protect yourself if need be. What stood out to me the most is that you wanted an animal with a level of intelligence, which to me pointed directly to a poossum. They are actually quite intelligent, and some studies have reported that they have a higher level of intelligence than some species of dogs. After all, there’s that term “playing possum” because possums will pretend to be dead to outsmart and escape from predators.

Mine wasn't picked.

Applicant #531:

American Marten

I feel most comfortable on land. Definitely
don't really want wings or anything like that,
--> The American marten is a mammal and lives in woodlands.

likes crisp cool weather of spring and fall
Snow is also really pretty and if I had to pick an extreme in temperature it would be cold.
--> It lives in temperate climate, in places where it can get cold during the winter (Rocky mountains).

Run faster. See better in the dark. Heightened senses
always pictured my animagus as something with paws and fur--as well as claws and teeth to protect itself, if necessary
--> Marten have good vision and a good sense of smell. They are also pretty fierce, with sharp teeth.
