Is there something wrong with LJ tonight? There hasn't been many new comments or posts for a few hours now, which is really strange...

Anyway. Thanks for the choices!

App #543: I'd love to hear all and any of your votes and reasonings ;D

I went with the kakapo for you!

* The applicant said she might not like air very much, though she noted she'd like to have feathers or fur. The kakapo is a flightless bird so she doesn't have to worry about flying.
* She wanted the ability to get places fast, and the kakapo has actually, in absence of its wings, developed very strong legs to almost look like jogging when it's going places.
* She says she likes a balance between being a loner and being with people. The kakapo is generally solitary but they interact with their species as well, like play fighting, as well as with humans as they are a curious species.
* The applicant describes her sleeping habits as pretty nocturnal, and this bird is nocturnal as well.

I'm looking for a small, earthy, nonaggressive animal for this applicant and I thought something in the rabbit family might fit. The French Lop is a breed of domesticated rabbit and I think domesticated rabbits really fit this applicant because they're calm and friendly and non-aggressive animals. They're pets, so they would be around people, but can also hop off and be by themselves, which would fit the applicant well.

It's also a small animal, which the applicant wanted, and it has the bonus of being able to come in a pattern or marking if that's desirable. They can come in what are called 'broken' coats, which is basically their colour being broken by white so it looks spotted or patterned, which is pretty cool! They're coat is also really smooth and nice to the touch, which the applicant highlighted.

They're relaxed and laid back animals and deal well with others, but can also be apprehensive towards strangers.

Not on your shortlist but even so-

I felt a pull towards a fish here. Even though you said you don't really want one with scales, I inferred this was more to do with reptiles than fish. They're pretty smooth and barey noticible on the smaller ones... and kinda pleasant in their own way. So what sort of fish would I say?

You have zeroed in on a tropical climate in passing, and as you would rather not live in a cold area, this suits me fine. I'm actually thinking of the coral reef- you seem to want a place where you can live in harmony with your environment and this seems as good a place as any.

I'm going to allocate you as a Decorated Rabbitfish (which is also called a Masked Spinefoot, which that is a bit macho). It's got nice bright colouring and interesting markings to it, they're able to defend themselves and can live in differing depths of water: I sense you like to afford a bit of control over your environment (albeit passively), too.

First, how much do I love that I'm sitting in the same room as you right now?

Second - Diademed Sifaka. That's me

I started my search with animals that care for the young of others, in keeping with your mama bear tendencies. Which is how I came across lemurs. Both male and female lemurs will care for infants that aren't their own. I stayed with them because they're wicked climbers, and chose this variety of lemur in particular because of their silky soft multi-colored coat (satisfying your desire to be soft and also similar to your own hair, which is all highlighty and such). Also, the diademed sifaka has very few natural predators. This made me think of you because you are very easy to get along with. :D

Here's mine!

For this applicant, I'll be voting Alpaca. Number one reason: SOFT FUR, because I wrote that in big capital letters while reading this application. The applicant seemed to really want that and Alpacas were bred specifically for their awesome furry fur.

Wild Alpacas are usually found in warmer climates, but they work well in any! But they do well in harsh mountain climates and I've seen some in Norway, so they definitely work in colder climates too and that should fit well with this application. They're kept as domesticated animals so they fit well into the applicant's affectionate nature. They're curious, which fits the outgoing nature of the applicant and they're also quite gentle.

Alpacas are very active in the morning, which fits the applicant well. They're also herders with very strong herding instincts, which I think is interesting considering the applicant says she basically herds people/animals and take them in ^^

Applicant #544:

This application put a MASSIVE emphasis on how they adopt people, animals, things into their care. At once I hopped onto google and looked up adoption within the animal kingdom. There's many examples, but I tried to look for ones that fitted the physical criteria you wished for (soft fur, not a bird, yadda yadda). I couldn't put you as anything other than a Labrador. Not only are they used to help humans who require assistance, but they're also suitably well-behaved, but do enjoy a good bit of fun. They bond with those they care about, and are very placid and open to socialising, yet know where their loyalties lie. I would also like to note that dogs love spashing around in water during hot weather. Labbies are lovely, though I wanted to suggest the chocolate labs specifically, but the fur colour doesn't fall into a seperate sub-genus. They're pretty much of the same cloth. ;)

Hey! Mine didn't make it, but I think it's very connected to the St. Bernard in sort of the way I chose to vote:

I went off the trait of being very helpful to others and I thought, why not an animal that can act as a service animal to humans? They're very helpful and it's a role that really fits this applicant's best trait. The White-headed Capuchin can be trained to help humans with basic tasks around the house, because these monkeys are very intelligent and are well known for their ability to use tools effectively. This makes them extremely helpful and able to make someone's life easier ( ... )

This was my vote :)

Applicant #542: altruistic, snappy, FIRE jk earth, night

The fire breathing Black and Rufous Elephant Shrew is diurnal and very active which seems to suit your fiery personality more than your night owl ways (and you resent it anyway so let your animagus be your guide~). I was trying to figure out how to fit in your fire first and then earth and what is better than a fabulous red head? SO CUTE. I MEAN FIERCE >.> What's also cool about this animal is that they look innocent but they actually have a full set of canines that they're ready to use. Elephant shrews are not super social so you can have your "me" time. PLUS YOU CAN KILL ANTS ALL THE TIME IN THIS FORM \o/

The first thing that really stuck with me about your app was that you have others' best interests at heart and you clearly like to help people. That's why I think you'd make a great St. Bernard. This dog was originally bred to be a rescue dog and is very tenacious, which fits with what you name as your worst trait, your obsessiveness. You said you have a large build, which also fits the St. Bernard, as it's a very large breed of dog. The St. Bernard needs to be well-socialized as a puppy; otherwise, it will be fearful of strangers and tends to bark a lot - I think this fits with your description of yourself as needing alone time so that you don't get overwhelmed and snappy. You said you like temperate climates...the St. Bernard was originally bred in the Swiss Alps, where the average summer temperature in the lower zones is about 68 degrees Fahrenheit, so I think you would be very comfortable there.
