Jory had run into a spot of good fortune.
For whatever reason, Colton Vane had sat down to talk with him last week. Although it had not been the most pleasurable of experiences (not that it had been awful, but he could only be called "Jerry" so many times before it became a bit annoying), it had been informative. He knew, of course, that Colton was Dex's best friend. It was very much like having an informant right in his own House, except said informant did not know he was an informant. And said informant seemed keen on getting his name wrong. Anyway.
Although overly obvious questions like 'What is Dex's favourite colour?' and 'Does Dex like animals?' seemed a little too ridiculous and impossible to get from Colton, he had managed to piece together bits of Dex's schedule for this year that had previously been a mystery.
For instance, Dex had Ancient Runes at 8:00 on Mondays. This had been difficult to ascertain previously, as Jory had Transfiguration at the same time. Class, he had found over the years, made keeping an eye on Dex rather difficult. But Colton had been very forthcoming with the information on his Monday at 8 AM whereabouts and the expectation that, perhaps, after class Dex might be found in the dungeons or somesuch.
He could not know for sure if Dex would come by, but it seemed likely that he would and there was nothing wrong with Jory strolling about idly, stopping to tie his shoe, looking as though he belonged there.
Which, clearly, he didn't.
