It in fact was true that Amabel was alone on Valentine's day. She could be hanging out with some of her friends in her dormitory but what was the point in doing that? They would all probably be sharing about how they fancy some boy and Mae honestly had better things to do than sit there and listen to them all babble about some bloke they could only get in their dreams.
So she sat alone at a table doing plain schoolwork because Mae was that boring. She would have gone over to one of the older years - heck, even a 2nd year - if they all weren't so dang intimidating! But alas, Amabel'd opted not to be so ballsy and go over to one of them.
