Brandon took off out of the meeting at a run to try and catch up to Esme, as she had left as quickly as possible. "Esme! Esme!" he called, going as fast as his legs would carry him. "Esme," he said again as he caught up to her, panting and out of breath. Well, he never said he was an athlete!
"Hey, are you okay?" he asked. He knew those remarks had probably upset her.
Esme heard Brandon calling her but didn't turn to face him until he had actually caught up with her. Let him run! He hadn't exactly helped her out during the meeting, had he! Letting this thoughts fuel her anger, Esme turned to face him, her mouth pinched in anger.
"Okay?" she repeated incredulously. "No I am bloody well not okay!" Biting her lip to try and prevent herself from saying something she'd regret, she gave him a deeply scornful look before turning away and walking away rather pointedly. Esme didn't really do subtle either.
"I know that you're probably upset," Brandon said, trying to keep up with her. "She shouldn't have said those things..." he trailed off, not wanting to talk badly about another member of the DA. It just wasn't right. They were all supposed to be in this together, and it would be really wrong of him to talk badly about another member, even if he wanted to.
"But I didn't say them," he added, almost quietly.
Esme would probably feel like that when she calmed down. She'd agree about being in it together, being a group, being loyal... but not right now. Right now she was angry.
Whirling around suddenly to face him, she jabbed at his chest with one shaking finger. "Oh, so you think she shouldn't have said them?" she questioned furiously. "Well that's pretty useless to know NOW! For all I knew during that meeting you agreed with her! I don't care that it wasn't you that said them - you might as well have done seeing how much you just sat there!"
Brandon's calm and logic was just serving to irritate Esme more. She knew that it was wrong to take it out on him, but just couldn't stop herself. The more she knew she shouldn't, the more she needed to vent and he happened to be the one standing there.
