Emmy watched her mother cooking yet more food as she sat at the kitchen table, still in her pajamas and holding her stuffed unicorn. Her father was sitting across from her, beaming from ear to ear while he drank his third cup of coffee just to have something to do with himself. She was so relieved to be home and now that the whole ordeal was over, she was thoroughly enjoying all of this attention. She was soaking it up and basking in it, knowing she'd have to return to school tomorrow.
Word had gotten around that she was at home and Nate had owled that he expected some of his mates and others might be stopping by soon to see her. He was on his way as well, just as soon as he could finish up some vague things that he'd not explained. She was hoping to prod him into sharing what he'd meant, but knew her brother well enough to know he'd probably only evade her every attempt.
She smiled, breathing in the scent of her mother's cooking again. She was enjoying every moment she had now, and every thing she'd thought she might never see again while she'd been... missing. She shuddered at the thought, but quickly pushed it away. She was home. She was safe. She could get back to her life as usual, well, almost normal, anyway. She turned around as Vi came tumbling into the room and threw her arms around her. She laughed, "Morning, Vi!"
Her sister grinned, "Morning, Em. So glad to see you're really still here," then she sat down and grabbed a piece of toast. Between bites, Emmy's older sister rambled on about all the things she'd buy if Emmy would just tell her what she wanted. Emmy grinned, but shook her head, "Vi, it's okay, really. I'm just glad to be home again," she smiled, cuddling her stuffed toy again as the bell at the front door rang.
