Wow, that took longer than I thought.
Made some new friends at the f!s meme, so now I should probably do a little introductory something something? I'm not very good at this, but ah, here goes.
Well, I'm 26 and live in Oulu, Finland. I don't go by my real name in LJ, so just call me Hiidenuhma. English isn't my first language, but I'm pretty used to conversing in English online and have never felt it to be a problem. No, we don't have polar bears here, but it can get pretty damn cold during the winter (for the past several weeks, -20°C/-4F has been a pretty normal occurrence).
I'm an information junkie who's currently studying to become a librarian. I love discovering new things and learning stuff, which is probably why my head is filled with so much useless trivia (but that might also have something to do with being a QI fan.)
I love music and used to play the piano for 12 or so years. I generally like stoner rock and metal, but I'd rather name bands/artists I like than list genres: Freak Kitchen, Mustasch, QOTSA, Gorillaz, Them Crooked Vultures, Tom Waits, Chris Cornell, Eels, Gogol Bordello, Mike Patton's various projects, Murena, Ismo Alanko... yeah, the list could go on. My long time boyfriend (who I'm currently living with) has (and does still) influence my taste in music a lot, but since he has a great taste, I don't really mind. ♥
I also love movies, big time. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to directors (my favourites list being something along the lines of Lynch, Gilliam, P.T. Anderson, Wes Anderson, Almodovar & Luc Besson), but I'm not really all that hard to please. I love Will Ferrell and his comedies (especially Blades of Glory and The Anchorman), have seen most of the stuff Judd Apatow has produced/directed, and generally it only takes a bit of creativity to get me interested in a movie. I'm always up for some recs, no matter what the genre.
As for TV, I really love British series. Mostly the comedy stuff, but Top Gear has a firm place among my favourite series because it's just pure awesomeness. The only reason I want a driver's license (which I don't have since I can't afford to keep a car, woes) is because of this damn show. ♥ As for US series, I'm currently into House, Lie to Me, Generation Kill, Vampire Diaries, Top Chef (always a favourite ♥), Project Runway, Daily Show & Colbert Report. I used to be more into the anime/manga fandoms, but I've slowly drifted from that part of the fandom to the western tv fandoms. I'm mostly a lurker, but I do occasionally write some fanfiction. Very occasionally, mind.
I wouldn't call myself a gamer, but I sometimes go through gaming phases. I've done the old school MUDs and Lucas Arts' stuff way back when; more recently got a Nintendo DS just for Phoenix Wright, started playing WoW, and now I've got an Xbox 360 (currently trying to get a 100% collection in Beautiful Katamari.)
Tennis is one of my main interests. I started following the sport some 6-7 years ago, purely on a whim, and for some reason, the game just sucked me in. Fandom came a few years later, when I started to contemplate the possibility of Roddick/Federer and soon discovered that it wasn't just me and that there really was an RPS fandom for tennis. Well, I love the fandom, but I'm still watching mostly for the sport. The slash (which is abundant in this fandom, I swear the slash pretty much writes itself) is just a nice bonus. Curiously enough, I don't play myself, but I'm planning to start learning. ♥
