Procrastination, procrastination...

aka Stuff That Happens When I Declare A Tumblr Ban On Myself To Get Some Writing Done And Then Don't Write.

I've had some RL stuff going on that's been taking up a lot of head space and I needed some escapism. So, I watched S1 of Suits. It's been a while since I've watched a lawyer show (or any drama series, for that matter, I sustain on comedy pretty nicely) and this one looked shiny (read = slashy), so I decided to give it a go.

Verdict? I'll give it 8/10. Addictive and fun enough to give me the distraction I was looking for, but as for the slash aspect? I'm not really buying it in this case. Granted, I was expecting something along the lines of the epic-ness of Neil/Peter from White Collar, but Harvey/Mike just doesn't have the same... thing. Like, at all.

Neil/Peter hits my buttons because they've got history, they've got their trust issues, but they still work together and work together. But Harvey and Mike? They're thrown together in a, let's be honest, pretty absurd premise (I'm not buying Harvey's reasons for hiring Mike because they just don't make sense in context of the character) and despite their rare moments of teamwork, Harvey's constantly pushing Mike away and leaving the poor kid flailing in situations that Harvey himself has created. I don't deny that that in itself might be an interesting setup for a pairing, but... I just don't feel the love in it. There's no spark between them, as far as I can see.

Looking at the fandom, I feel like I'm watching a completely different show here. Pretty much the whole fandom seems to ship Harvey/Mike with passion (even some of the actors ship it!) and that's all well and good, but here we come once again to my biggest pet peeve in the fandom of fandom: Y U NO HAVE DIVERSITY?????? I'd be happy to overlook the piles and piles of Harvey/Mike if there was something else to look at as wel. But there isn't, at least, not very much.

Man, all I really want is some good Louis/Mike to take the edge off... Did I mention that Louis is my favorite character and that the majority of the fandom seems to like to pretend that he's not even there? I get that my pairing tastes are, as usual, tending towards the more obscure, but I think it's a great waste that a character such as Louis isn't explored more in fanfiction. I find him infinitely more interesting than Harvey "Who doesn't like me?" Specter and there just really should be more Louis centric fic around. Period.

Anyways. There's a bit too much pointless romance drama for my tastes (the whole Rachel/Mike/Jenny/Trevor thing isn't really winning me over), but I'll take the bad with the good as long as the show keeps me entertained. I love Donna and Jessica, and while the Harvey Specter love bug hasn't bit me yet, I don't hate him either. He's just a bit... boring. Mike, on the other hand, is adorable, but he should start wisening up already. He's too naive for his own good and augh, I bet S2 won't be any better.

Enough ranting, I guess? I should get back to writing, but I have a feeling I'm going to make a detour through S3 of White Collar before that happens...

(I really miss Tumblr though, life is so empty without its shininess)
