National Deficit

Apr 17, 2006 20:48

The average income per household in the US is $22765/yr the average debt per person is $32000
32000/22765=1.4

The United States has a gdp of $12.41 Tril and a debt of $8.837 Tril
12.41/8/837=.018

So when it comes to talking about the national debt the average american should SHUT UP

I don't know you . . . but I'm pretty sure you screwed up the math on that one. Following your initial formula of debt/income, the figures for United States should be 8.837/12.41=.712, not 12.41/8/837=.00185. Furthermore, the household data is income and debt. I don't think GDP is the economic measure that should be used in this comparison. A better one would be receipts (Collections from the public and from payments by participants in certain social insurance and other Federal programs. These collections consist primarily of tax revenues and social insurance premiums, but also include receipts from court fines, certain fees, and deposits of earnings by the Federal Reserve System. Total receipts are compared with total outlays in calculating the budget surplus or deficit.) because that more closely resembles the direct income the government receives. This value is around 2,000 billion (which is 2 trillion), so the revised formula debt/income is 8.837/2=4.4185 ( ... )
