Quando sono malata escono ste cose.

When I'm sick, things like this happen.

Title: 5 Times Yuto ignored Yamada for no reason
Pairing: Yamajima
Author:  hikarin
Rating: PG?
Warnings: Angst. Angst. ANGST. ;_;
Disclaimer: I wish.
Summary: Yuuto's ignoring Yama-chan, and he doesn't know why.
Notes: This is for the HSJ-thon. This came to my mind while watching Yuuto during the 2 episodes of Show wa Heisei without Yama-chan.  I don't know why, really. But he looked a lot less cheerful without Yama-chan there. But probably it's just me and my Yamajima obsession.

1.

JUMP had just finished dance practice for their new choreography and they were congratulating one another, screaming happily Otsukaresamadeshita! on top of their lungs. But there was something off that day, Ryosuke noticed. Yuuto usually would bounce around, jumping on the members’ backs and smiling that big smile of his. The usually carefree Yuuto.

But not that day. He was just changing into his street clothes, with a little smile playing on his lips. Everytime a member went to congratulate him, he would just answer with an Otsukare! himself, putting on his trademark crooked smile and then he just went back to whatever it was that he had been doing.

Ryosuke watched him for a bit, and then began to walk over to him, only to stop midway. Yuuto had slung his bag across his shoulder and walked out the door mere seconds after Takaki and Inoo, wishing everybody goodbye.

Ryosuke stood still at the center of the room, eyes wide. Yuuto had walked pass him and hadn’t even looked at him, as if he was invisible.
“He’s just tired.”  The shorter boy thought, trying to convince himself.

A hand settled on his shoulder and he looked up, only to find Yabu with a concerned expression on his face. The oldest had seen what had happened, and wondered if Ryosuke and Yuuto were in a fight. It wasn’t that unusual to see them fighting, but usually it was over silly things and after half an hour they were back to being the best of friends, in Yabu’s eyes. But that hadn’t looked like a silly fight at all.

“Are you okay?” The taller of the two asked, squeezing Ryosuke’s shoulder gently. The younger boy looked down again and nodded.
“Yeah.” But, for some reasons, he couldn’t help but feel a strange weight on his stomach.

2.

Yuuto was waiting as always for Ryosuke after school, but the latter was late. After ten more minutes the taller boy saw Ryosuke finally running towards him.
“I’m sorry I’m late! Sensei was scolding half of the class for not doing their homework.” He rolled his eyes and then looked at Yuuto, who just nodded and began to walk.

“Crap. He’s angry now. I knew I should have just sneaked away.”  Ryosuke hurried to keep up with Yuuto’s pace. He wasn’t talking at all, so Ryosuke thought it would be good if he apologized again.
“Ne, Yuuto. I’m really sorry, I’ll try to sneak out of class if it happens again.” But the taller boy just waved him off.
“It’s ok, don’t worry. It’s not you fault anyway.” The taller boy said without even looking at him.

The rest of the journey was spent in an uncomfortable silence, and Ryosuke was afraid to break it. Usually it was Yuuto who couldn’t stop chatting about whatever it came to his mind, but today was different.

They reached his house first, as always, and Ryosuke turned smiling to the taller boy. “Thanks for walking with me again today.” He always said that to Yuuto, even after all those years, and the taller boy kept telling him to stop it every time, because it’s stupid to keep saying that after we’ve done it for years!
But he kept saying that because he loved to see the cute annoyed look Yuuto had everytime.

But Yuuto wasn’t looking at him. He was staring ahead and as soon as Ryosuke said that he nodded and waved, and then walked away.

He didn’t dare to turn around because he was sure that Ryosuke had a crestfallen look on his face, and if he was to look at him in that moment he may not be able to walk away ever again.

3.

Ryosuke arrived on the set of Scrap Teacher only to find Yuuto, Daiki and Chinen already there, fooling around. Ryosuke breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Yuuto was back to normal, maybe it had just been a bad day after all.

He hurried up and got changed in record time. He just wanted to join his friends and have a little fun, and he had missed his Yuuto so much. He began to make his way towards the three while Chinen and Daiki were happily waving at him and telling him to hurry up. He waved back smiling, but he didn’t really notice that Yuuto was looking at him with a serious expression.

In fact, he was surprised when upon arriving, Yuuto suddenly stood up and walked away from them without saying a word.
Chinen and Daiki looked utterly confused. “Yuuto, where are you going?” The older of the two called after him, only to receive a wave and a Be right back! in return.

The two watched as Ryosuke’s expression changed completely. He wasn’t smiling anymore and he was fighting back the tears, because that strange feeling in his chest was back.
“Yama-chan, what’s wrong?” Ryosuke looked up when he heard Chinen’s voice. He smiled a bitter smile and wiped the only drop of tears that managed to escape from his eyes. Then he shook his head.

“We may be short, but we’re not stupid, you know.” Daiki said with a soft smile and Chinen nodded furiously from his spot on Daiki’s lap, making Ryosuke chuckle slightly. The shortest JUMP member got up and sat on Ryosuke’s lap this time, taking his face between his hands.
“And you don’t cry just for nothing.” Chinen continued, wiping away another lonely tear.

Ryosuke closed his eyes and softly bumped his head against Chinen’s. “It’s just that I don’t know. I don’t know what’s wrong.” He said, putting then his head on Chinen’s shoulder. “I don’t really know…” He finished in a quivering voice.
The youngest hugged him tightly trying to comfort him, while Daiki was watching Yuuto from the corner of his eyes. The younger boy was spying on them, maybe thinking they couldn’t see him.

And that was the only thing Daiki was able to do, watching them both slowly breaking down.

4.

JUMP had had the shooting for their new PV that day. Now they were on the bus, going back home. It was late at night, and nearly everybody was asleep.

Ryosuke glanced around at his groupmates. Ryutaro was fast asleep in the back row, with his head in Yabu’s lap. The oldest JUMP member was sleeping too, and he had a hand on top of Ryutaro’s head. He had probably been stroking his hair before falling asleep, Ryosuke figured.

Chinen was asleep, unsurprisingly, in Takaki’s lap. The older had his arms wrapped tight around him, while his head was on top of Daiki’s, who had apparently decided that Takaki’s shoulder made a rather comfy pillow.
Hikaru was in the middle of Inoo and Keito, who were both sleeping with their heads on Hikaru’s shoulders. Music could be heard coming from Hikaru’s headphones, but Ryosuke was sure that he was asleep, too.

The only ones still awake were Yuuto and him. Yuuto had been awfully quiet all day long, it had been so strange not seeing him bounce around the set as usual for everybody. Everybody but Ryosuke.
He was now staring at the night sky out of the window, while Ryosuke was staring at no other than him.

He still hadn’t figured out what was wrong with Yuuto lately, and it was hurting him so much. The younger boy was ignoring him more and more, he didn’t know what to do, what to think.

Since everybody was asleep, Ryosuke decided to try something. He leaned closer to Yuuto, first putting his head on the other’s shoulder. He then took Yuuto’s hand in his and entwined their fingers.

But Yuuto didn’t react. He didn’t smile down at him like he usually would have done, and Ryosuke didn’t feel him tighten the hold on his hand. He waited for a bit, maybe Yuuto had drifted off to sleep and he hadn’t noticed.

But nothing came, and Ryosuke’s heart broke a little more. He hid his face in Yuuto’s neck and tightened the grip on the younger boy’s hand even more.

The taller boy felt his neck becoming dump with salty tears, but what Ryosuke actually couldn’t see was Yuuto silently crying, his eyes squeezed shut to fight the urge to take the other into his arms and tell him that, in the end, everything would be alright.

He couldn’t lie to the person he loved.

5.

Ryosuke, Ryutaro and Yuuto had just finished filming that week’s Show wa Heisei episode. At least, Ryosuke thought, Yuuto had been his usual cheerful self even if he hadn’t talked to him for even one second.

He entered the changing room and found only Yuuto inside, and he was nearly ready to leave. Ryosuke watched him collecting his things without sparing even one glance to him. He felt his eyes filling with tears, he couldn’t take it anymore.

“Yuuto…” His voice was broken because of the tears that now were falling freely from his eyes. But the taller boy kept on ignoring him, and it was driving Ryosuke crazy.

He missed Yuuto’s voice, because when the younger boy talked to him he always used a gentler tone than the one he used with everybody else. He hadn’t heard that voice for days. He missed being in his arms because despite everything, Yuuto’s embrace had always been where he felt the safest and it still was. He missed joking, talking, just being with him.

“Talk to me, please.” He begged, but the only reaction he received was Yuuto letting his head drop, effectively hiding his face from Ryosuke’s view.

The smaller boy couldn’t help it when he walked towards Yuuto and wrapped his arms around his neck. The taller boy stayed still, he didn’t pull away but he didn’t hug Ryosuke back, either.
“I can’t take it anymore, Yuuto.” The older boy began, between sobs. “I- The way you’ve been ignoring me it’s driving me crazy. What did I do wrong? Tell me, tell me please…” He took a deep breath, “Just say something, I need to hear your voice. I just need you to say something, please… I-“ He stopped when Yuuto began to lift his head.

Even more tears began to fall from his eyes when he saw how red Yuuto’s eyes were, how full of tears they were but more importantly, the distressed look on his face.
He didn’t understand why this was happening to them. He had tried to convince himself that everything would have turned out right, that it was just a bad period and they were so busy and stressed out and everything.

Suddenly he froze, because Yuuto had placed his lips on Ryosuke’s ones. He didn’t even remember the last time Yuuto kissed him. The taller boy didn’t deepen the kiss, he just tasted Ryosuke’s lips caressing them gently with his own and the older boy did the same, tightening his grip on Yuuto’s neck.
He felt like everything was alright again, until Yuuto pulled away from his lips and from his body, too. The taller boy took his bag and, without looking back at Ryosuke even once, made his way out of the dressing room.

The moment Yuuto pulled away, Ryosuke had fallen on his knees. He hadn’t even realized that Ryutaro had entered the room and was now crouching next to him and holding tightly on his hand.
The only thing he was able to do was to look at the doorway behind which Yuuto had just disappeared, hoping everything was just a silly prank and he would come back smiling like always.

He realized for the first time, that hoping was useless.
