I have a friend who is transgender, and no, she agrees with me on that being transgender is nothing you choose. She was born as a boy but never felt like one, her brain was telling her that she was a girl, she made the choice of stop pretending to be something she wasn't but she never chose to be transgender.
LauraMcEwan asked me to pass along my comments--Being transgender is MOST definitely not a choice. I doubt that anyone would choose to feel wrong in their own body and most transgender people feel they are the wrong sex very early on, by four or five. Wiki would be a general place to start, I don't know any really good web sites on the subject, but it is well accepted by the medical field as a hormonal/chemical imbalance that the person is born with
