Like Father, like boyfriend.

“There’s a saying that girls fall for guys who has their father’s personality.”

SNSD’s little maknae, Seohyun, whipped her head back to look at her choding of an “on-screen husband,” CNBLUE’s Jung Yonghwa.

“What?”

“It kind of does make sense if you think about it.”

They were in their peaceful, tranquil Sangdo-dong home. It was a WGM filming schedule but there were some technical difficulties so the whole crew had to go back to MBC and fix whatever they had to fix. Which meant Yonghwa and Seohyun are the only ones left in the small apartment. Even the coordi nunas had to leave with the crew.

“How so?” It was 8 in the morning. Quite early to go to work, but they were idols. They were used to working at crazy hours and in crazy situations. Seohyun was in the little kitchen, blending herself and Yonghwa some ma shake mixed with apples. She liked apples. And so did her father. And Yonghwa.

“When you are born, who was the first male you ever encountered?” He was sitting on the dainty yellow couch they had. He made himself comfortable on it by putting his feet up on the coffee table infront and grab-hugged a pillow, to death.

She had just finished blending both of their ma shakes and made her way to sit beside her nampyeon. He held his hands out to her to grab the cup out of her hands. She adjusted her seating on the couch to a more comfortable state as they both wait for the crew to come back and start filming.

They both drank their shakes at the same time. The aroma wasn’t that good, but not to say that it wasn’t bad either. It was… in the middle. Or greater than in the middle but simply not the best.

“Hmmmm… Of course it’s the doctor if they’re male.” The choding within her suddenly came out. She looked at him with a playful expression and he just frowned.

“I’m being serious here Hyunnie.” He looked at her with those brown eyes of his again and she can’t help thinking, he reminds her of his dad. Who she terribly misses.

“Ahhh. Okay okay, my dad of course.” She drinks her shake after and nods her head as she looks at Yonghwa.

“Your dad has always been with you ever since you were born. He might not always have been around as much as your mom, but he gave you all the love and care he can and did what your mother couldn’t do. And in that process, and since he’s the opposite male, you begin to create this vision of an ideal guy in the image of your dad. It’s because he’s your dad, that’s why. He was the first male in your life and gave you all the love he had so you dream of a guy like your dad. It’s all psychological Hyunnie.” He said all in one go and then after, he finished up his mug of ma shake and placed it on the coffee table.

Yonghwa looked at her for a response but found that she was looking at her mug, swirling the contents around and around, thinking. She had even put on her famous (or should I say infamous?) pout of hers.

“But what if your soulmate isn’t like your father? Like for you guys, what if the one you really want to be with isn’t like your mother? What would you do?” She stared at him with those eyes of hers that can through anyone’s soul. Especially his.

“It’s just an ideal Hyunnie. An ideal is just an ideal. If the person you love isn’t like your dad, then that doesn’t change much does it? You love him right? And maybe, you’ll love him even more than your dad.” He laughed and smirked at her as she smiled back and hit him on the arm.

“Ah choding! How can my abeoji ever compare to someone like you?” Her nostrils were flaring and Yonghwa could clearly see it. He took this chance to teaser her again. He loves to tease her because she was always so cute whenever she gets angry. Actually, any side of his Hyunnie is cute to him. And beautiful.

“Well, he loves to joke around, like me. He’s a great guy, like me. He’s a smart guy too. He also likes to tease you from time to time.” He was grinning at her and holding her hands to stop her from slapping him any more.

“But most of all, it’s because he treasures his only daughter, his Seo Joohyun, more than anything… Like me.” His grin faded into a warm smile that only she could bring out in him. That warm smile, almost fatherly like, melted Seohyun’s heart. Every single time. And not that she dislikes it, but she feels tingly inside. Like she just wants to hug him and be in his embrace forever.

But he caught her by surprise when he tugged on her arms, sending her crashing into him. He wrapped her strong arms around her tiny waist and kissed her forehead. She smiled.

“We’ll make it work. I promise. Okay? Trust me. I love you more than anything, like father-in law.”

“I know you will. I love you more than anything too, like mother-in-law.”

“I don’t think eomma loves me that much though.” He grinned at her.

“Ah choding!”

“But you love this choding right?”

“Of course I do. As much as I love my dad.”

They just kept on smiling at each other, enjoying the hug that they were in. Basking in the love a simple hug can emit.

“Okay! We’re back! Let’s start filming you two, shall we?”

They both quickly stood up from the couch and fixed themselves before the crew sees. And as they get ready to film, Yonghwa whispered to her. “Imagine if our daughter gets married, he better be like me.”

“That I have no doubt about yeobo.”
