I was thinking about taking guitar lessons, just sort of a beginning class. But... kind of stuck on whether to buy a classical or contemporary guitar. So.. what do you think? Nylon strings or steel strings?
I have to say, I wouldn't be the best to ask, because I play both. My personal guitar has nylon strings, and I love the sound I can get from them - beautiful for a smooth, mellow tone. However, steel strings are also very fun, and both my dad and my brother have steel-string guitars, so I occasionally borrow theirs.
For starting out, I'd reccomend nylon strings, however. They're not as harsh on your fingertips, and it will allow you to develop calluses more gradually than you would if you started with steel strings. You see, steel strings really start to hurt if you practice for too long. *nods*
So that's my thoughts on the subject. *nodnods, and grins*
Hm, then... nylon strings would be best, I guess, except... x_X; I'd have to order, and it would take several weeks to get to the store, and then... yeah, a bit late. ^^
I asked my J-chan for advice on this as he's been playing guitar for over 20 years^^
He says it all depends on what kind of music you're wanting to play for example: folk music, or the stuff you hear on the radio: steel strings (You hafta use a guitar pick for this style)
nylon strings are typically for classical, but you can play other types of music with em also. They're easier on your fingers and a little easier to learn. (This style you use your fingers mostly to play).
It also depends on how much money you wanna spend, both guitars are gonna be relatively similiar in price. Once you decide what kinda music you wanna play, you should buy the most expensive guitar you can afford because unlike other products with guitars you get what you pay for.
This is alot of info, but I hope it helps you out^^
You might want to start with nylon strings. My mother started with steel strings, and well, her guitar is still flecked with blood on the inside from all the times the skin on her fingers broke.
