My request letter for the 2013 fanfic challenge Not For Primetime is
I'll just copy and paste the first part of my Yuletide letter from last year, because my wishes haven't changed, even though I've requested different fandoms.
You've picked one of my requested fandoms and that says a lot about you (and me, too, I suppose).
I'm rather easy to please although I do have a few 'no-nos' that will send me running - fast - and if you've ever seen me run, it's not a pretty sight.
I tend to cringe at gratuitous graphic sex, although a well written bit of smut, and especially something sensuous, is always appreciated.
Inconsistencies within a piece make my head spin. If character A likes chocolate ice cream in scene one, then vanilla shouldn't suddenly become their favorite later on. I don't mean that characters have to be entirely true to canon, because sometimes that's up to interpretation. Especially if the story is AU.
I frown at unusual cruelty towards even the evilest of characters, and a swift death for villains rather than torture. Although I love humor, slapstick makes me squirm.
And speaking of humor, fluff is also good and so is clever banter. But I can deal with angst as well as hurt/comfort. Kids in stories can be cute or heartwarming, but overly precocious ones not so much (even though I've been guilty of including those myself).
Otherwise, feel free to express yourself and how you see the story going. These are the ones I chose:
A Song of Ice and Fire
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Song_of_Ice_and_Fire Characters: Arya Stark, Brienne of Tarth, Tyrion Lannister
What would happen if these three were stranded on a beach somewhere? You can throw in any other characters you want from the cast of thousands in ASoIaF, alive or dead. In fact, a visit from Renly's ghost would be great.
I'm currently about 2/5 through the fourth book, but who knows how far I'll be by the NPT reveal; in any event, spoilers don't bother me.
There's not enough fun in AsoIaF, and Brienne tends to take herself too seriously, but I think you could have lots of fun with these three characters.
Firefly
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly_%28TV_series%29 Characters: Malcolm Reynolds, Simon Tam, Kaylee Frye, Zoe Washburne
I'd love a whatever-happened-to story. When the crew meets up again years in the future on some far off planet or asteroid or something, I expect they'll reminisce but also catchup with each other. If they have a new adventure, that'll be good, too.
Torchwood
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torchwood Characters: Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper, Owen Harper, Toshiko Sato
Since I still can't accept the deaths of Owen and Tosh, I'd prefer an early adventure when the team was still intact. Lots of aliens and alien artefacts.
Xena
Characters: Xena, Gabrielle, Joxer, Callisto
I'd love to see a story where Joxer is the hero.
Not For Primetime is a collection on AO3 of fanfics for fandoms that are bigger than those in Yuletide, but still not 'big'. If you're interested in requesting and writing fanfics for NPT, it's open for signups until April 25.
