Are they homeschooling him to try to rehabilitate him? Or did he learn it from the 'rough kids' at co-op? :P

Nah, David is actually a good kid... Most of the time. He just talks a lot of shit and does some REALLY stupid stuff sometimes that gets him in trouble. Like one time he brought a pocket knife to school and got suspended for a week. (In his pre-homeschool days.)
