Health Care Bill

Mar 22, 2010 14:02

OK, so I haven't read the bill, just summaries.  But I'm glad it passed.  Here's why:

Health Care is a complete mess. If I had not had insurance, and I didn't qualify for government assistance (as many working people do not), then having each of my sons would have cost me about $10,000 when all was said and done - each.  Ouch.  People keep having babies - can't stop 'em if we wanted to.  There are plenty of people having those kids without insurance and who can't afford it.  Who ends up paying, then? Hospitals write it off, a negative for them.  How do they balance it? By charging more for their services - a perfectly sound plan.  Except the cost of having babies keeps going up, and every time it cycles, more and more women default on their bills.  Now muliply that by all the other reasons people go to the hospital.  Add in people that don't have insurance so don't go to the doctor who ending up getting so sick that their care costs much more than it would have with preventative care.  Or worse, they just die.  It's a nasty, sticky issue.  I do not like that people don't have access to preventative care if they want it.  I normally don't have socialist leanings, but the way I see it, the more people that don't have insurance, the more it costs ME when I need care.

I absolutely do NOT like that health care is to be mandatory under this proto-law.  However, under our current system, I admit it is likely necessary.  I think the bill is full of good things and necessary evils and some stupidity.  And it is much, much better than doing nothing or delaying action.

Another reason I feel OK about it is that I trust the President's motives.  It's surely an unpopular thing to get involved it.  Why would he do it so soon into his presidency unless he felt it would be good for the American people? What other possible motive could he have? Maybe he thinks it was a mandate from God? Oh, wait, that was Bush and the Iraq War.  At least that didn't cost a lot of money like this Health Care Bil does.  Oh...wait.... that whole Iraq thing costs a lot more, doesn't it? If I had the choice of a Presidents, I'd choose one that is motivated by saving American lives, rather than spending them rashly.
Yes, I did email my Congressman, Mike Doyle, to tell him what I thought.
