I think that the most important lesson I've learned from the relationship I'm in now is that it's all right to be unhappy with the relationship you're in sometimes. No one is always happy with any situation, and circumstances in relationships sometimes change in ways that can temporarily devastate us. Permanence of those conditions, for me, would necessitate a split, but I recognize that the benefit I gain from the relationship I'm in is far greater than the pain I suffer from the circumstances not being exactly how I want them.
It's interesting, though, that my lesson was so positive, because I've also realized that it's important to realize when you're truly unhappy in a relationship and when that isn't going to go away. I've wondered if that was the case in this relationship many times, and I continue to consider whether I'll be truly happy in this relationship.
