I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year, and new decade too. (Yes, I know that technically the new decade starts next year :) ) May 2010 be a better year than last, and may this new decade be an improvement on the one just past.

And I wouldn't worry about nit-picking decades. You're right, of course, that the first decade of this century didn't just end, and I'd not expect *you* to make that mistake. And every January first starts a new decade, after all. A decade is just a period of ten years. I'm not even sure a decade has to start on a January 1.
Um, where was I? Oh! Happy Now Year!

I should be at Arisia although I'm still trying to get into the main hotel. I've been on the wait list since the day after the hotel sold out. (sigh)

Decades are generally counted as the sixties, seventies, etc., so in that sense a new decade (the "tens" or something boring like that) has just started. Nothing says they have to align with centuries. Hey, the Romans used to start the year in the middle of March!
Of course, as annonynous points out, the second decade of the twenty-first century won't start till next year.

I was referring to the second decade of twenty-first century not starting yet which both of you picked up. Just being a little paranoid, I guess.
